To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN SACHAR, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Kato, in the county of Center and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Equilibrators for Boats, of whichthe following is a specification. j
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in equilibrators for boats. l
V Theprimary object of the invention is the provision of adjustable Outriggers for ships adapted for engaging the surface of the water imparting stability to the craft, adjustable wave-piercing members being provided therefor. j v
A further object is toprovide flat waveengaging outriggers adjustably arranged at the bow and stern of a boat and having anti-frictional engagement therewith, the same being adapted for maintaining the equilibrium of the boat during a storm or in rough weather without impeding the progress thereof. V
A still further object is the provision of an outrigger for a boat anti-frictiona'lly shiftably contacting the side thereof and radially adjusted in height from the deck of the boat, the outrigger being arranged at its free end with an adjustable wave-engaging parting member facilitating the progress of the boat therethrough.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views I Figure 1 is a side elevation of a boat provided'with the present device.

The present stabilizing device or equilibrator is serviceable in connection with any large boat or vessel and is herein illustrated in connection with the boat 10, the
said boat being provided with one of the same adjustably attached to both its how 11 and stern 12. Each of the Outriggers is provided upon its lateral edge with a depending flange 34:. j
The bow device illustrated in Figs. 8 and 4t of the drawings consists of a substantially rectangular table form of outrigger 13 having a \l-shaped cut-away portion or notch lt in its rear end adapted for receiving the boat how 11, the outrigger beingvertically adjustable thereon. The bow 11 is provided with a longitudinal slot 15 therein adapted to receive an anti-friction ball member 161 p which is seated within a (lGPl'GSSlOll. 17 in the adjacent edge of the outrigger l3 and retained by means of oppositely arranged plates 18 providing a form ofcage as best illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings. Qperating screws 19 are arranged at opposite sides of the bow 11 having their lower ends swiveled in brackets 20 carried by the sides of the boat and journaled in upper brackets 21 also carried by the boat. Opposite bosses 22 are provided upon the edges of the outrigger notch 14: and the screws 19 are threaded therethrough while hand wheels. 23 are provided upon the tops of the said screws adjacentthe boat deck 33. this arrangement, it will be clear thatby turning the hand wheels 28 in the required direction, the outrigger 13 may be elevated and lowered as found desirable, the shifting of the outrigger 13 being rendered easy by means of the ball bearing 16.
It will be understood that the stern oatrigger 24 is of substantially the same construction as the said how outrigger 13 so that further detailed description thereof will be unnecessary, the identical parts being indicated by the same reference characters as employed in connection with the said bow outrigger, it being noted however, that the inner edge 25 of the stern outrigger 2 1 is of arcuate form to correspond to the boat stern 12 While as before noted, the inner edge 1d of the. bow outrigger is of a shapeto. .conform to the bow 11.
