Description

C. M. M. HOUSTON.
RECEPTACLE FOR CONTAINING LIQUIDS.
APPLICATION man mvls. 1911.

Jim/enter" cons'mivon MEREDITH Honsron, or PAPANUI, NEW ZEALAND.
3 'REGEPTAGLE FOB, CONTAINING LIQUIDS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CoNs'rANon MABEL MEREDITH HOUSTON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 83 Knowles street, Papanui, in the Dominion of New- Zealand, have invented new and useful Tin-- provements in and Relating to Receptacles for Containing Liquids, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tins, cans, barrels and the like receptacles adapted to conbulbous form, composed of fine wire gauze receptacle.
and arranged within the receptacle so as to cover the orifice through which the contents are poured. The said strainermay be permanently mounted in the receptacle in the course of manufacture of the latter or such strainer may be detachably arranged and adapted to be received by asuitable formation provided for the purpose in the In order that the nature of the invention and its construction may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying sheet of drawings in which Figure 1- is a perspective view of a tin indicating in dotted lines the position of the strainer permanently attached therein,
Fig. 2is an enlarged detail view showing in section one form of, apparatus for detachably securing a strainer within the discharge opening of a receptacle.
1 is the receptacle which may take any desired form such for instance, as the ordinary rectangular tin commonly used for containing petroleum and otherliquids as shown in Fig. 1, or such may consist of a drum or" cask of wood, metal or other. material.
According to the present invention, abag or strainer 2 is provided and arranged w1thin the receptacle 1 so as to cover the orifice through which the contents are to be poured. 7 As shown in Fig. 1, the strainer 2 may be soldered or otherwise permanently attached Specif cation of Letters Patent.

to the inner surface of the receptacle in the course of manufacture, the position of such strainer being suitably indicated upon the outer surface of the receptacle to insure of the hole being pierced at the required spot.
Referring now to Fig. 2, I have here shown one wall of the receptacle 1, such wall being formed with a circular discharge opening 10,,to receive the strainer 2. The
wall of this opening is provided with an inturned annular threaded flange 3, in which is mounted an annular metallic collar 4. The lower edge of the collar 4 is secured to the strainer 2, as shown, whereby the strainer is supported in depending position in the receptacle, as will be understood. The collar 1 is screw-threaded throughout its entire widtlnas indicated at 5, certain of such threads cooperating with the thread of the flange 3 to support the collar within the opening, as will be understood. The collar a is of such a width that its upper edge projects eXteriorly of the receptacle, as at 7, and this projected portion receives a screw cap 6 which closes the opening and seals the contents of the receptacle.
To prevent accidental movement of the collar 1- and subsequent displacement of the strainer 2, and to form a positive seal for the discharge opening of the receptacle, I provide a hung ,8, which, as here shown, is mounted within the collar 4 and threadedly engages the same. When applying thebung 8, it will be understood that it is inserted prior to the application of the cap 6, and that when in position it will cause a radial distention of the collar 4E, thus causing the same to be locked into engagement withthe flange 3 and thereby preventing circumferential movement of the collar and producing an effective seal between the collar and the flange. It will be readily understood that the strainer may be easily removed for cleaning purposes by unscrewing the cap and bung in the order named, whereby the collar may then be gripped and rotated to Withopening being inturned and threaded, a 001- the same, and ascrew threaded closure cap lar screw threaded throughout its length and threadedly engaging said collar.-
threadedly engaging the Wall of said open- In testimony whereof I affix my signature ing and having the major portion thereof in presence of two Witnesses.
