POHCH SWING.
APPLICATION FILED IULY I2. Isls.

ltfteiflfltlliidf @it TAT@ "i FRED FOX AND SIMON E. LO'IZ, OF LIMA, OHIO.
Ponen-swine.
`States, residing at Lima, in the county of fllen, yState of ^QhiO, have invented certain new and useful improvements in v'Porch- 'iwings; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, l such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to malte and use the same.
rihis invention relates to porch swings and has special reference toa folding chair for swings of this description..
The principal object of theinvention is to improve and simplify the general construetion of devices ofthis character.
The second important object of the invention is to provide a porch swing of this char acter wherein theA saine devices which serve to hold the arms. of the swing in erect position relative to the seat will likewise support the seat when the proper chains or ropes are attached thereto.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a porch swing so arranged and constructed in an improved manner that the side members of the swing will fold fiat upon the top of the seat- While the back member of the swing will fold fiat underneath the seat. Y Y
With the above and other objects in view, such as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel Vdetails of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifially claimed.
in the accompanying drawings, like char acters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
Figure 1 is a front view of the swing in erect position.
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the swing folded. i
Fig.` lis a section on the line lf-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a section similar to Fig. Ll, showing the parts folded.
Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6 6 of Fig. Q.
1n carrying out the objects of the invention in the' present embodiment thereof there is provided a bottom Vor seat which Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed July 12,1916. Serial No. 108,867. l
consists of side members 10 and a front member 11. These side members serve to support slats 12, the slats being rabb'eted into the side members.
,Each of the sides consists of a lower member 13 and an upper member le, these menibers being connected at the front by a front post 15 and at the rear by a diagonal rear post 1G.. Vertical slats 17 are also interposed between the members 13 and 14;.
'Connecting the Amembers 10 and 13 are hinges 18 which are so arrznged that their vpintles are at the inner edges of said members 1() and 13 so that the sides can be folded flat on the seat or can be erected in such manner that the member 13 on each side will rest on the member 10. ln order to hold these sides in erected position suitable openings are provided in the members 10, 13 and 141 and through these openings pass eye bolts 19 having eyes 2O at their upper ends and nuts 21 at their lower ends. 1t will be noted that when these eye bolts are in position with the nuts screwed on the sides can not be bent down to lie on the seat and that the eyes in the upper ends of these bolts serve as clutching means for the supporting chains or ropes so that the weight is supported on the bottom and not at all on the sides.
The rear ends of each of the members 1.0 are beveled as at 21 and hinged beneath these beveled ends are the beveled end members f2.2 of the back, these end members being connected by top and bottom members 23 between which entend slats 241. The end members 2:2 lit between extensions 25 formed on the rear ends of the members 14. and when in position between these extensions bolts 26 are passed through said members Q2 and the extensions 25 to hold the back upright. Moreover, by the construction herein set forth the back is enabled to lie flat against the bottom of the seat as shown in Fig. 3.
rlhere has thus been provided a device which can be readily set up for use and which can be folded together for transportation or storage, into a very small and compact bundle so that it occupies but very little space.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired toconfme the invention to the the arms and back are standing npon'the eXact form herein shown anddescrib'ed'but Vit is wished to include all such as properlyv come VWithin the scope-claimedl Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is :-1 I
