To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY A. HART, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Flushing, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cut-Out Rocking Toy, of which the following is a. full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to toys known as cut-outs, and relates particularly to a rocking toy.

The invention has for its general objects to provide a simple, novel and entertaining toy or cut-out which is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture and which a child can readily construct, the toy embodying a body and base which are separately cut out from a piece of cardboard or equivalent material on which the design is printed or otherwise delineated.

A more specific object is the provision of a toy embodying a body and base and having novel means for detachably connecting the two parts to form a unitary article which can oscillate on a table or other surface by a gentle motion being imparted to the toy.

With such objects in view, and others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.

of the body section A is provided with depending lugs 2 which are always in the same plane with the body. ()11 the front surface of the body is a picture and the outline may represent one or more figures or forms to amuse or entertain a. child.

The base B is approximately elliptical and is adapted to be folded on the lines 3 and 4 which are parallel with the major axis of the base and at opposite sides thereof. When thus folded the base is composed of front and rear rockers 5 and 6 and a connecting top plate 7. The line of fold 3 is slit at three receive the three lugs 2 of the body section. The front face of the front rocker is printed or otherwise delineated to form a continuation of the picture on the front of the body A. The lugs are concealed behind the front rocker so that they will not be seen when the toy is viewed from in front. The two rockers will support the toy upright and allow it to have a general back and forth rocking motion when its center of gravity is shifted by the child applying a lateral force to the toy.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and method of operation will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation, together with the article which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the article shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, it claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. An article of the class described co1nprising a body section, a rocker base sec tion consisting of a double folded sheet piece with the folds spaced from each other, and means for detachably connecting the sections.

2. A cut-out rocking toy comprising a. body section having depending lugs at its bottom, and a rocker base having apertures in its top for receiving the said lugs.

3. A cut-out rocking toy comprising a flat body section having a lugand a base ART COMPANY,

section formed. of a flat piece having two parallel folds and curved opposite edges, whereby the outer portions constitute rock- -ers, and an aperture in the base section for 5 receiving the lug of the body section.

4. A rocking toy comprising a base section formed of a folded piece of material and. em-

bodying front and rear rockers and a top connecting portion, apertures in the line of fold between one of the rockers and the top 10 connecting portion, and a body having lugs at its lower edge engaging in the apertures.
