The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings, is designed for use in connection with a conventional meat chopper either power or' hand driven such as is in general use in butcher shops and like places. ASuch meat choppers comprise ar housing 1 in which is rotatably mounted av Worm 2. The end of the worm 2 at the dis-` charge end of the housing 1 is formed With'a 'stud 3 upon the squared portion 4 of vvhchfrV are arranged the perforatedcutters of the meat chopper when the latter is in use. In the employment of -the attachment, these cutters are removed in order to adapt the chopper to accommodate the attachment.
The attachment comprises a tubular been ing member 5 havingan annular flange 6 at one end which is adapted to snugly tit in an annular seat 7 which is provided 1n the discharge'end of housing 1. Said bearing membei' 5 is locked in operative relation with cplan View vof the attachl with a pointed pin 17 shaft as clearly shown 1n Fig. 1. In order to permit of the keeper or ilange 8 passing over the flange 6 of the hearing member 5 said fiange 7 1s cut away at opposite sidesl as at 11, since with this arrangement one side of the keeper 8 may be lirst passed over the flange 7 and then the opposite side of said keeper rocked to position hehind said fiange. Without this arrangement, it is of course apparent thatit would he iinpossible to pass the keeper 8 over the iange 6 inasmuch as the diameter or the opening in said keeper the iange 6.
Mounted in the hearing member -5 for ro-l tary and longitudinal movement is a. shaft 12 provided at its inner end with a socket 13 adapted for snug engagement with the stud 3 in order to operatively connect said shaft With the Worm 2, so that when the latter is rotated, said shaft will he rotated thei'eeith. Fixed to the outer end of shaft 12 is a circular grind stone 14. The shaft f. 1i),v is normally pressed toward the worm 2 in order to insure engagement of the socket 13 with the stud 3,- byv means of an elongated resilient yoke 15 engaging midway its ends against the outer ond of shaft l2. in order to insure engagement' 'of said yoke with said shaft, the former is provided with an openfing 16 which is adapted for encagement rejecting iioin said of said yoke lare connected by means of bolts 18 and coporating' nuts 19 With the ends ot' a cross piece 20, the central portion of which is secured by means of screws 21 with the outer end of bearing members 5.. By this arrangement it will he seen that yoke 15 may be flexibly adjusted through of nuts 19 in order to secure the desired shaft l2.

The attachment set forth is extremely simple and economical in construction, the same maybe readily and easily applied to a meat chopper or removed therefrom, and will be found highly eiicient in use as in the sharpening of knives and cleavers o f a butchero or for any Aother purpose whlch a grind. stone may be employed.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction forearrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and' modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not Wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but

3. In an attachment of the class described, the combination of a housing; a rotary element mounted in said housing; a bearing member detachably connected With said housing; a shaft mounted for rotary and longitudinal movement in said bearing member and adapted for operative engagement with said rotary element; and an elongated resilient yoke connected with said bearing member and pressing against the outer end of said shaft for normally holding the latter in operative relation with said rotary element, substantially as described.
4. In an attachment of the class described, the combination of a housing; a rotary element mounted in said housing; a bearing member detachably connected With said housing; a shaft mounted for rotary and longitudinal movement in said bearing member and adapted for operative engagement @5 with said rotary element; an elongated resilinetsnoer Ayoke to adjust the pressure exerted thereby against said shaft, substantially as described.
