To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLAIR L. BISHOP, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bags, of which the following is a specification,

The present invention relates to the class of animal husbandry and has particular reference to new and useful improvements in feed bags.

An object of my invention is to provide a feed bag which may quickly and easily be attached to an animals head and firmly supported in a position whereby the animal may reach the contents thereof without difficulty.

Another object of my invention is to provide an improved arrangement of supporting arms on the hames or connected to some other part of the harness structure, such as the saddle or collar.

A further object of my invention is to provide a supporting structure for feed bags adapted for detachable association there with, said supporting structure being foldable when not in use.

Other objects and advantages to be derived from the use of my improved feed bag will appear from the following detail description and the claim, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which r- Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a feed bag and supporting structure therefor embodying the improvements of my invention showing the same applied in operative position; and

Fig. 2 is an enlarged detached perspective view of the same.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates the body of my improved feed bag, the same being formed of leather or any other suitable material and having a bottom 2. A perforated section 3 is arranged on the side of the feed bag to permit air to reach the animals nose when within the bag. A head strap 4 is provided, the free ends thereof being stitched as at 5 to the outside surface of the bag body 1. A neck strap 6 is connected at 7 with the head strap 4. A pair of spring snap fasteners 8, only one of which is shown are provided, said snap fasteners being arranged as at 9 on the outside of the bag body 1, for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.

Referring to the supporting means for the bag body I provide a pair of bars 10 and 11 pivotally mounted as at 12 to plates 13, said plates carrying straps 1 1, said straps being adapted to embrace the hame 15 to mount said arms 10 and 11 in operative position. A pair of bracing arms jointed at 17, are provided, the upper free ends of said brace arms being pivotally connected with plates 18 similar to the plates 13 hereinbefore referred to, said plates 18 carrying straps 19, said straps embracing the hame adjacent the upper ends thereof. The lower free ends of the brace arm are pivotally connected at 20 with the supporting arms 10 and 11. The outer free endsof the arms 10 and 11 are provided with apertures 21 for engagement with the snap hooks 8. Thus it will be seen that the feed bag when applied is engaged with the arms 10 and 11 by means of the hooks 8. The head and neck straps are engaged as shown in Fig. 1 and the device is ready for use. When not in use the arms 10 and 11 are folded upwardly along the hames 15, being entirely out of the way and not interfering with the animal. The arrangement of the parts is such that no special construction of hame is necessary to permit application of the device thereto. It will be seen that in the use of my improved feed bag it is impossible for the animal to waste any of the feed in view of the fact that the bag is arranged relatively close to the mouth of the animal preventing the animal from shaking the bag vertically and wasting the feed.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it

is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent; is:-

In a device of the class described the combination with a container body having a looped supporting strap engageable with an animals head to support the container thereon, of pairs of vertically spaced straps detachably connected to the hames; plates on said straps, a pair of parallel forwardly extending supporting arms pivoted at their inner ends to the plates on the lower straps, said arms extendingforwardly to points adjacent the opposite sidesofthe container body, the outer ends of said arms having loops. formed thereon, snap fasteners on opposite sides of said container body engageable with the said loops, and jointed brace arms having-their inner ends connected to the plates on the upper straps and their lower outer ends connected to the supporting arms adjacent the forward extremities thereof.
