Description
V A. LAWSON. Improvement in Shoe Fas'tenings. No' 125,400.
Patented April 9, 1872 7 Inventor Witnesses UN TED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
AARON LAWSON, OF PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-FASTENIVNGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,400, dated April 9, 1872.
experiment.
My invention relates to a simple and cheap device for fastening shoes, by which the shoe can be speedily and effectually secured upon I this stztnda-rd is a fiange,f, and upon the opposite side of theflange is a screw, g. The
screw 9' is passed through a hole in the under flap c, and also through a stifl'ening, h, where a nut, 1 is screwed upon its end, so as'to bind the flap and stifi'ening between the flange and nut, and thus secure the standard firmly to the flap. The nut i and screw 9 may be dispensed with, if desired, and a simple bolt be used instead, which can be headed on the inside of the flap. Near the edge of the overlapping flap b, opposite the standards 61, I insert an eyelet, k, which should be of the proper form to allow the "standards to pass through them.
To fasten the shoe, the flap b is drawn over the flap 0, until the standards pass through the eyelets, after which a string, 1, which has a knot at its lower end, is passed through the holes 6 in each of the standards successively from the bottom to the top. The upper end of the string can then be tied or secured in any convenient manner, and the shoe is fa-stened. The knot prevents the strin g from passing entirely through the lower hole.
The unf'astening is accomplished by simply loosening the upper end of the string and drawing it downward, and then stripping the eyelets from the standards.
By this means I provide a cheap, simple, and eiiective shoe-Iastening, which can be speedily fastened or unt'astened, as desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
A shoe, A, with eye-bolts d, secured to the quarter or flap c by means of a nut or head, i, and the eyelets 7c in the fly b, the whole being arranged and operated in connection with the string 1, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal. 7
AARON LAWSON. [L. s.]
