To all whom it may concern:

Be'it known that I, FRANCES L. J Arms, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wausaukee, in the county of Marinette and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new, and useful Improvements in Combined Corset-Covers and Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to undergarments for women, and more particularly to body garments.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a combined corset cover and brassiere so constructed-as to eliminate the extra thickness around the waist of the wearer and in which the shoulder strap of the brassiere is prevented from slipping from under the corset cover. i

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a arment of this character which may be easi y laundried.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description roceeds, the invention resides in the coinhination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a perspectlve View of this improved garment shown applied,'the front of the brassiere beirig=closed and the corset co'veropen, and v Fig. 2 is an elevation of the garment taken In the embodiment illustrated, a brassiere 1 of,ordinaryconstruction is shown composed of two back sections 2, seamed to the side back sections 3 which in turn are connected by seams with the front side sections 4 carrying the'usual fronts 5. While this brassiere is described and shown as com? -posed of the parts above referred to, it'is obvious that it may be composed of any number of sections, the necessary feature being that it closely [it the figure of the wearer for whom it is intended to operate as a support.

The front and rear side sectionsftand 3 have the usual arm-hole recess 6 andare united at the shoulder by a seam 7. This brassiere is so cut asito terminate above the waist line of the wearer for whom it is intended, to avoid unnecessary thickness at this point. The free edges of the fronts 5 are provided with the usual fasteners 8 for closing the garment.

The corset cover 10 within whichthe brassire is disposed and by which said brassiere isconcealed, may be made in any suitable'or desired manner provided it extend at the top and bottom thereof beyond the top and bottom of the brassiere; and preferably beyond the front edges thereof. The armholes of the corset cover and brassiere are made of uniform size and are joined together at this point, being preferably bound by a reinforcing strip 9 and they may be finished in any sultable or desired manner. The shoulder seams 7 of the corset cover'are made to-register with the scams 7 ofthe brassiere and'are secur'ed'together at this point as is shown clearly in Fig. 2, the corset cover extending-at the upper edge thereof beyond the upper edge of the brassiere so as to. completely conceal it and the fastening ofethe two garments at this point prevents all possibility of the shoulder straps. of'the brassiere slipping below the shoulders of the corset cover, avoiding the necessity of using lingerie clips, which are commonly employed for this purpose and which frequently-become detached.

As shown," the brassiere is also connected with the corset cover at the under arm seams, indicated at 13, but it need not necessarilybe connected at this scam.

From the above description it will be obvious that a garment constructed in the manner described provides for the supporting of the bust ofthe wearer by a tight fitting'nnder garment'a'nd permits the use of a loose corset cover which may be held inplace by a belt 11, a gatherino herein arranged at the top thereof, although this need'not necessarily be so made.

When wearing thin dresses, it is very do sirable that a fancy garment be worn, and

It will also be obvious that by connectingthese two garments only at the arm holes and shoulder seams that they may be easily laundried, it not being necessary to connect them at the under-arm seamas shown at 13.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection. with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will 'be' readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, l desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.

A con'lbination body garment compris- .ing a loose blouse corset cover with a brassierc arranged therein and connected thereto at the shoulder seams and arm holes only, said cover completely encoi'npassing the brassicrc and extending above the upper edge thereof at both its back and front and be ]ow the lower edge: thereof said ln'assiero terminating at a point above the waist line of the'wearcr, and a retaining band secured to the lower edge of the cover and of a length to encircle and snugly fit the waist of the wearer.
