tiTENTEBING OR STBETCHTNG' DEVICE FOR STEAM CAN DRYING-MACHINES F032. TEXTILE FABRICS.
Patented @liano 1L5, T912,
Griginal application filed January 7, 1915, Serial No. 996. Divided and. this application filed April 5, 1916. Serial No. 89,215.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN Ross STEVEN- soN, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland and the Isle of Man, and a resident of Glasgow, Scotland, bleacher, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stentering or Stretching Devices for Steam gCan Drying-Machines for Textile Fabrics, being a division of my application for U. S. Patent, Serial No. 996, filed Jan. 7, 1915, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises improvements in stentering or stretching devices for steam can drying machines for textile fabrics such as that shown and described in my English Patent #8553, A. D. 1912.
The steam can drying machine to which the improvements of this invention are applicable consists of a series of revolving heated cans or cylinders'arranged parallel with each other with their axes horizontal. Above the cans and intermediate of same a series of grooved wheels are arranged and fitted with connecting bars or members so that each wheel on the one side forms with the opposite wheel on the other side and the connecting bars between same a series of drums. The fabric which is held by stenter ing pins or clips arranged in the form of a chain is passed around the lower surface of the cans and over the drums above and intermediate of the cans. The pins or clips are attached to blocks or carriages which are guided in suitably formed and placed rails around the cans and drums, and as this construction is clearly shown in the above noted patent, it is not illustrated in the drawings.
It is desirable to prevent the chain of clips being in contact with the surface of the cans in order to keep the cans clean and also to avoid the frictional action of the clips when passing around the cans, and the object of this invention is to provide means whereby these ends are attained.
In order that others skilled in the art to which the improvements of this invention relate may properly understand same I have hereunto appended one sheet of explanatory drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan view of one end of a steam can, Fig. 2 is an end elevation, the can being indicated by a circle, and Fig. 3 is a section of the appliances shown to a larger scale.
Referring to these drawings In carrying the improvements of this invention into effect or practice a ring plate 25 is placed around the steam can 2 but does not closely fit as its diameter is such as to leave a small clearance space between it and said can. The ring plate 25 is formed with two radial flanges 26 between which the carriages and clips (hereinbefore mentioned) carrying the cloth travel. l/Vhen the machine is working the pressure of the chain of clips keeps the ring 25 in close contact with part of the surface of the can. lVhen it is desired to adjust the distance between the chains, these are slackened, thus allowing the ring plate 25 to recede from the surface of the can when it can be easily moved to the required position on the drum by any suitable means or by hand.
What I claim and desire to secure by Lettors Patent is 1. The combination of the cylinder of a drying machine, with means for preventing direct engagement of the fabric-carrying chain and said cylinder, consisting of a ring plate loosely mounted on said cylinder.
2. The combination. of the cylinder of a drying machine, with means for preventing direct engagement of the fabric-carrying chain and said cylinder, consisting of a ring plate loosely mounted on said cylinder; and means on said ring plate for guiding the chain.
3. The combination of a drying machine cylinder, with a ring plate for the reception of a fabric-carrying chain, mounted .on said cylinder and adjustable longitudinally thereof.
4. The combination of a drying machine cylinder; a ring plate mounted on said cylinder and adjustable longitudinally there of; with chain guiding flanges on said ring p ate.
5. The combination of the cylinder of a name to this specification in' the presence of drying machine with a ring slidably mounttwo subscribing Witnesses.
ed thereon and of a larger internal diaine- JOHN ROSS STEVENSON. ter than the diameter of the cylinder; with Witnesses: 5 chain guiding means on said ring. JOHN STEWART,
In testimony whereof, I have signed my ALEXR. ARRoL.
Copies of this patent. may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
