To all whom it 'may concern.
Beit known that I, EDWARD A. HnNnLna citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in'Coupon- Tickets, of vwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates toirnprovements in theater or similar admission tickets of the type wherein a body portion to be retained by the doorkeeper is provided w1th a dc'- tachable end coupon Ato be retained by the seat holder. y
T he invention consists in a ticket having similar end coupons anda body portion located centrally between the coupons, and
wherein both faces ofthe ticket are similarly printed and the obverse and reverse faces of the respective coupons are parts of each face of the ticket. VThere is thus provided a ticket wherein either end constitutes a coupon and each coupon will contain on its two faces designations of all material or necessary data, such as the date, the name of the theater, and the price and location of the seat, wherein both coupons may be .detached without destroying the body portion, and wherein the body portion will also carry designations of all data material thereto.
By providing a ticket of this character the operation of detachng the seat holders coupon is facilitated because either side of the ticket serves as the face thereof and either end of the ticket serves as the seat holders coupon; but one composition of type is required for the printing of the ticket because the printed matter is identical on both faces of the ticket; the coupons are more easily read and of greater informative value because both faces are available for the data, part of which is printed on one face and the remainder lon the other face, and the printing is in larger type and better arrangement than is possible with tickets of existing constructions; and provision is made for keeping a record of advance sales and for checking the tickets taken at the door, because one of the coupons may be detached by the ticket seller and retained as a. record of the sale, the other coupon may be detached by the door-keeper and retained by the seat holder, and the body portion, when both coupons have thus been detached will be left intact and with all of its data unimpaired.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is a view of one face of a theater ticket infwhich the features of the invention are incorporated; and
Fig. 2 is a view of the opposite face, the ticket being turned over about its longer dimension as an axis.
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts in the two views.
It is to be understood that the invention is applicable, generally, to coupon tickets, although it is particularly advantageous when applied to coupon tickets of the kind used in theaters and the like wherein it is desirable that the detached coupon and also the remainder or body of the ticket should contain the important or necessary designations pertaining to the seat to which the ticket corresponds, such as the date for which the ticket was issued for use, the location of the seat, and its price. The ticket shown in the present instance is an example of a theater ticket embodying the present invention, and while it represents the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not restricted to the precise arrangement shown, as equivalent arrangements are contemplated and will be included within the scope of the claims.
In the ticket as shown, l represents the card or slip, usually of paper or cardboard of suitable thickness which may be considered as divided into a body 2, and end coupons 3 and 4, the coupons in such case being detachable substantially along lines 5- To facilitate such detachment, the card may be indented or otherwise weakened along said lines, although such is not ordinarily necessary. On the face A, shown in Fig. l, the main or body portion 2 has printed thereon designations of the date for which the ticket was issued and the name of the theater or place where the ticket is to be used, the lines of printing preferably extending longitudinally of the ticket; the
coupon l has printed thereon as at Y similar designations, and the coupon 3 has printed thereon as at X designations of the identity of the seat, the part of the theater in which the seat -is located and the ',pricefot'.-v the ticket, the lines ot' printing on'the` coupons preferably extending transversely of the ticket.
In vlfi'g.. 2 the, ticketY is'. represented` as` turned over about its longitudinal center and its opposite face B is shown. This face is printed from the saine composition of type andthe printed matter is identical with that f on the face A. There 1s a reversal,:hoeve-vent,`
of the printed matter on the coupons, that is the matter X printedA on the ace'A of the coupon 3.
andt isidenticaland either-coupon maybe inditferently, detached and giventothe seatVv holder. Since the printed matteris distrib4 uted, in parts X and Y on both coupons, said matter may be `displayed in larger type and in more convenient or readable arrangement tha-nis possible with existing constructions.
The printed matter on lthe coupons may also be more comprehensive, that is to say, it may include items which, owing to the limitations; of space, cannotI be practically displayed on; thecoupon of tickets of existing constructi'ong, for example, the vprice of therticket.-
This isa consideration of great practical; Y p
