Description

WILLIAM A. FORD.

NI-fren WILLIAM A. FORD, OF GREENSBURGH, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LINE-CLAMPS.
Speciflcation forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,038, dated March 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. FORD, of Greensburgh, in the county ofDecatur and inf the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Acting Gord- ()lamps; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a cordclamp, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire cord-clamp, and Fig. 2 shows the grooved and serrated tapering eccentric, which, with its taperin g box or cover, .forms the cord-clamp. Figs. 3 4 show some of the various purposes to which this cord-clamp may be applied.
A represents an eccentric, of any suitable size, made tapering in thickness, as shown in Fig. 2. Along the circumference of the narro wedge of this eccentric is a V-shaped groove, a, and notches or serrations b b running crosswise on This eccentric is pivoted through its thinner en d, to the place where wanted to be used, by a screw, d, which passes through an angular tapering cover, B, fastened at the ends, as shown in Fig. 1. The eccentric A, constructed tapering, as shown, and with the grooves and notches or serrations, together with the correspondingly-tapering cover B, forms my cord-clamp, to be used in hoisting and lowering any desired articles. The eccentric may be provided with several pivot-holes, so as to suit different-sized cords. The long bearing the y.clarnphas on the cord prevents the cutting of the cord, and the groove a prevents the cord from being pressed out of its original shape.
In Fig. 4 is represented my clamp as a lineholder, useful forfastenin g clothes-lines or lines for other purposes.
The tapering form of the eccentric A gives the necessary excess of weight where desired, without increasing the length or width thereof, thus keeping it within a small compass.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The grooved and serra-ted tapering eccentric A, used in combination with the angular tapering cover'B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of September, v1871. 4
WILLIAM ALBER'I FORD.
