Description

I Patented Dec. 1l, 191'?! Il nWU coma CLEANER. APPucAloN man SEPT. ao. 1916. *A
retrasar,
' tion of' a structurewhich is intended to fit upon the body of a comb normally, thereby being'out of the way when it is` desired to use the comb, although when it is desired to clean the comb of dandruif or other refuse the cleaner may be drawn downwardly so as to cause' the cleanin4 webs fitting between the teeth to drag t erealong and thus clean the comb. 1
Another object` of `this inventionV is the production of a comb cleaner wherein a plurality of `retaining framesV are connected to the aside portions of the webs sothat the frames rmay fit upon the body of thecomb normally permitting the `comb to Ibe. used without .interference from the cleaner, although when so desired the framesmaybe released `for `permitting the `webs to be drawn toward 4the outer. ends of the teeth, thus positively cleaningthe same. *AnotherobjectV of" this invention `is the production of a comb cleaner wherein the frames are formed from blank sheets of material which .are bent longitudinally so as. to provide a number of bodieslso arranged as to bind upon the side stripsofthewebs and also to secure the retaining ribbons, thereby causing` the entire cleaner to be vpositively Vretained in an assembled position4 upon all occasions. v. l `With these and other ob]ects 1n view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, iconstructions, Aand, arrangements of parts as will be hereinaftenfully described and claimed".`
.In the accompanying drawing l Figure 1 is a side elevationof the comb cleaner, illustrating the samey mounted upon Aa comb, andas the'same` appears when carried "upon the body of the comb and when the comb is .ready for use.`
Fig. 2 is a plan'view of the comb cleaner,
Apartly broken away, and shown in an extendedlposition.` 1 l Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on theline rnnnnnroii J. coLcHIN, or nneafrnr., immane.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led September 30, 1916. Serial No. 123,042.
' l'lljatentecimiteri it,
3-3 of Fig.,l, looking in the ,direction of the arrows.` u .1lv 1` Fig. 4 yis afragmentary sidecelevation of a `portion of the comb, showing the webs in section, and illustrating the manner in which the same fit between the teeth. y
Q Fig 5 is an enlarged sectional view through one of the frames, illustrating the manner in which the side strips and retaining ribbons are carried by ther frames.
Fig.f 6 is a plan view of the blank from i which. one ofthe frames is formed. t
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals it will `be seenthat the comb cleaner is adapted tobe used upon a comb havingthe usual body 1 from which extend the coarse teeth 2 and the ne teeth `It V is, ofcourse, obvious that this comb cleaner is capable of being used upon lall forms and sizes of combs for the construction of the comb cleaner inall instances willbe the same and the operation will be identical. The fabric side strips l are connected together in spaced irelationvlbythewebs `5 and 6., It will be seen rthat the webs 5 are adapted to fit between the coarse teeth 2, while the webs 6 are adapted to fit between the line teeth 3, although if so desiredthe websfmay all be of ,the same size for .fitting upon combs which `have, all l of their` teeth f of, a 'uniform size. These webs 5 and .6 are formed of the i samematerialfas the side strips 4;, simply by drawingthe longitudinal threads from the longitudinal fabric sheetl so that the transverse threads may be compressed at central points between the side strips 4,thereby retaining thewebs intermediate their ends so as to permit these webs to iitbetween the teeth of a comb, as shown in Figs. l, 3, and 4t.
The two frames used in `connection with the` cleaner are similarlyconstructed, each `frame being formed froma blank, as shown `in Fig. 6, `and comprising an elongated body 7. This body is folded longitudinally. Vso as `to rovide 'an outeriiange 8, since the body i3 is folded along .the dotted line 9. The ange 8 is foldedalong the dotted line 10 so as toprovide the longitudinallyextending lip 11 which lits within `the space between the `body -7 and the flange Swhen `the structure is folded as shown veryclearly in Figs. 3 and` 5. Oneof theI sidef strips is positionedupon one side of vthe body 7 `and `extends `around the inner edge of the longi-` -tudinalrlip 11 fitting between the lip 1l` and the inner `portions of the flange 8, Asthe after being positioned within the frameas n above described, the frame is then clamped to present a very. thin. structure, thereby causing"the"`side' ystrips to Vbe `clamped between the body and .lip..andl thelipvfand r flange so as to hold Vthe strips against accidental idisplacement. 1J Before the' v.frames-- are finally clamped upon the side strips4, how ever," the tying-ribbons' l2I-have their linner endsf 13 1 extending-so f as toV fit -withinv vthe ltrainev between :the lips 11 and the side strips 40, so lthat-a-binding action will take place asffshown -in Figi 5, .thereby positively-holding 'the tying ribbonsupon tlieltrames. flt is -obviousifthata number lof these ribbons areL employed, as showniiil.Figs. lx andl 2f so 4that their outer-f ends -inay be drawn A.together andtied as indicated atv 14;,"for `releasably-V retaining-the comb cleaner in a :set
position upon"v the body lof the comb. Af-
ter fthe comb has beenin :use forsometime andlit is'desired -to clean the-'same vthev tied endsof 'the ribbons 12 f are released, after `whi`ehfthe frames,V4 of*v course, will drop from engagementfwithf*the?.bodyL l of1 thecomb.
'Upon' downward pressure being exerted uponf the;y frames fit= --willl lbe V-=seen\ thatl 'the webs will beldrawn between the teeth 2 and Atoward the outerI ends of thesefteeth, therecausing the-webs-toifirmlybind upon the.
linner surface of theteeth, while-'the cleaner is 'f being moved downwardly -so thatthe --dragging action of the webs uponthe-teeth will"po'sitively remove -dandruff l and other Arefi'ise from tlie teeth. `-Afterthe-comb 'cleaner' has-been" drawn to Ithe A outer ends lof ythefeeth l'sothat all-of thef refuse `will `be positively and :efiiciently removedv the cleaner Lmay be returned to---its normal position,l at
which time the webs will be carried adjacent the Ainner ends' of. the'teeth, while the `frames willv fit-upon the body so -that after thelribbons havebeen tied the comb cleanerfmay be carried infits*` normal position. Under such circumstances it will be' seen that the cleaner will be yout of the'way and Willnot interferewith the Vusel of the comb, although when; so desired'the cleaner may be moved soas-torefliciently remove particles lof refuse from between the, teeth of the comb.
lFrom lthe foregoiiig--description vitwill be 'seen `that a very 5 simple and@ veliicient comb cleaner h as been provided which is constru'cted soastobe in position; for operation at` all times, while' the y construction. lofv the frames which are formed from blank-sheets 5f-material vare'suchas to hold the-'strips .andthecleaning webs in engagement'therewith, aswell as retaining'the tyiiigribbons.
so fthattthe entire comb cleaner-will beheld 'in' an`v operative position, and thus minimizing the possibility of its becoming out of order when in use.
