MARTIN ROBINSON, or cAivrrBnLL I-IILL, rumors, 1;
i I To all whom it may concern-1' "Be it known that'I, MARTIN ROBINSON, a
"citizen of the United States, residing at Campbell Hill, in the county of Jackson and State of-Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wate Heaters, of which the following is a-specification, reference being had to the accompanying-drawings'. 1 1
This invention relates to certainv improvemerits in water-heaters and? has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in canning3and it is an object of the invention to provide a deviceof this general character having novel and 1mprove'dmeans whereby the water may be readily and conveniently heated. I
}*It is also, an objectof the invention to provide a deviceQof this general character with a supplemental container or reservoir whereby heated water can be delivered :Withinthe main container as the requirements of practice may necessitate.
Theinventlon conslsts in the details of construction and in the combination and arirangement of'ftheseveralparts of my im- ,proved heater whereby certain important The novel l1 hereinafter be definitely claimed.-
Inorder that myinvention may be the advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for -u'se,'- all as willbe hereinafter more fully features of the invention will better understood, I will Dow -proceed to describe the same with reference to the ac companying drawings, wherein p l I Figure 1 1s a vlew 1n elevatlonof a water heater constructed --in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectlonalview v Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the hne 3 3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken through the device as herein embodied; and
Fig. 5 is a view in bottom plan of my water heater as herein set forth.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, :C denotes a container of predetermined configuration and dimensions and whichhas its top face open. L denotes a lid or cover adapted to close the top or taken substan- I WATER-HEATER.

open 'face 'ofthe container and provided I with a hand'grasp 1 whereby the lid or tainerC are two series of substantially triangularly arranged hollow extensions"- 2." The extensions of each series are separated 'one'from the other and are preferably three in number. The bottom "o'fthe-container C is provided witha plurality of openingsfZ-l in communication With: each of the hollow extensions 2. e v I -WVhen the container C is seated upon ca stove the extensions 2 areadapted to be disposed through the holes in the cooking top of the stove whereby it will be perceived container 0 will be readily and eifectively heated.
that the water'or other liquid within'fthe T denotes a tray having its bottom andiuside walls provided 'with a plurality of,
openings 4. The jars or'other receptacles.
containing the fruit, vegetables or the like to becanned are seated wlthin said :tray.
The-tray T is then' positioned within the:
container C and rested upon thezinwardly enemas-0r the container C and positioned mean diameters ofthecontainer G and in predetermined distance above the; bottom -of the container C.: T he tray T hasitslongitudinaland tra nsverse-diameters less than the corresponding I disposed shoulders 5- carried by-the side and of said strips 7 is disposed onrapredetermined incline.
f In practicethe waterlevel withirf'theico'n .t'ainer C is preferably maintained at threequarters of an inch aboverthe bottom of the container C as this in practice has been found to produce best results.-
Carriedby the container 0 anddisposed exteriorly thereof is a vertically disposed gage glass G of ordinary construction which has its lower end portion in communication I with the interior of the container C. The upper end of the gagefis provided withan opening 8 and through said opening is slidably engaged theupstandingstemv 9 of 'alinement with the normal Water line within the container 0. Extending within the supplemental container or reservoir B through the bottom thereof are the extremities of the tube 16 preferably of copper, which tube extends inwardly of the bottom of the container C and underlies the same whereby it will be at once self-evident that the water or other liquid within the supplemental container or reservoir R may be readily and conveniently heated. The tube 16 is held to the bottom of the container O through the medium of the clamping strip 17.
Extending through the supplemental container or reservoir R adjacent the bottom thereof is the pipe 18 in communication with the atmosphere and with the container 0. The outer end of the pipe 18 is provided with a valve 19 to afford means whereby an excessive quantity of water or other liquid within the container C may be withdrawn.
The pipe 18 is also provided with a port.
20 communicating with the interior of the supplemental container or reservoir R and which is under control of the valve 21 extending exterior-1y of the supplemental container or reservoir B through the top thereof. By this arrangement it will be at once self-evident that a supply of heated water or other liquid may be readily delivered within the container C as the requirements of practice may necessitate.
The outer face of the supplemental container or reservoir R and the opposite end of the container C are provided with the hand grasps 2:2 for a purpose which is believed to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a heater constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. A water heater comprising a container, and a second container carried thereby, a discharge pipe in communication with the first named container and extending through the second container and discharging exteriorly of the second container, said pipe being provided with a port in communication with the interior of the second container, a valve adapted to close the port, a controlling valve interposed in the pipe exteriorly of the second container and a tube carried by and underlying the first container and having its extremities in communication with the second container.
I A water heater comprising a container, and a second container carried thereby, a discharge pipe in communication with the container and extending through the second container and discharging exteriorly of the second container, said pipe being provided with a port in communication with the interior of the second container, a valve adapted to close the port, a controlling valve interposed in the pipe exteriorly of the second container, and a tube carried by and underlying the first container and having its extremities in communication with the second container, through the bottom thereof.
In testimony whereof l hereunto aliix my signature in thepresence of two witnesses. MARTIN ROBINSON. lVitn esses I WVALTER STorrn H. F. DUDENBOSTEL.
