To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROYAL A. McGLUnn, citizen of the United States, and a reeldent of Seattle, in the county of King and 1 State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Monorail- Trucks, of which the following is a full, true, and exact specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mono-rail trucks and has for its principal object; to provide a simple, novel and eflicient form of mono-rail truck; to provide a mono-rail truck having a single supporting traction wheel; to provide a simple and novel form of anti-friction bolster bearing for the car body. A further object is to provide a frame having self alining side balancing springs.
Other objects will appear as my invention is more fully explained in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of my truck with parts broken away and a fragment of a rail. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same with a fragment of a car body shown.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, numeral 1 indicates a rail or stringer having side rails 2 on either side. My truck straddles the rails and includes rectangular side frames 3 which are connected by inverted U shaped end frames 4. A single traction wheel 5 supports the frame of the truck by means of springs 6. Springs 6 support hangers 7 which support the frame directly on coiled springs 8, thereby providing a resilient support. Coiled spring plunger cups 9 on either side of frames 3 hold spindles for alinement of wheels 10 which run upon side rails 2. Secured to the top of the truck frames 3, is an anti-friction bolster circle 11 and a cooperating ring 12 is secured to a car body frame 13. The
bolster circle 11 has a central vertical ring 14. A pair of cooperating vertical rings 15 fit one on either side of ring 15! and are secured to ring 12. Vertical roller bearings 16 are set in ring 14 and bear against either of rings 15 as the case may be. Tapered horizontal rollers 17 are mounted between rings 15 and bear against the top of ring 14. The above combination of rollers, bolster circle and rings form an anti-friction bolster of simple design and high efficiency.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and I therefore desire to avoid being limited to the exact form shown and described.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and ters Patent, is
1. In a mono-rail truck, the combination of an inverted U shaped frame adapted to straddle a rail, an anti-friction bolster secured to said frame, said bolster including a pair of cooperating flanged rings, vertical and horizontal roller bearings between the rings of said bolster, whereby the load is taken on the horizontal rollers and the thrust on the vertical rollers.
In a mono-rail truck, the combination of an inverted U shaped frame adapted to straddle a rail, an anti-friction bolster secured to said frame, said bolster including a pair of cooperating flanged rings, vertical and horizontal roller bearings between the rings of said bolster, whereby the load is taken on the horizontal rollers and the thrust on the vertical rollers, and guide roller spring cups secured in vertical and horizontal alinement on the sides of said frame.
