' State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Coin-Controlled Vending-Machines, of'which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to coin con-- trolledvending machines and consists of certain improvements which are fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings which form a part thereof.
This application is a division of my application serial numbered 335,864, filed September 24, 1906, and is specifically directed to the coin controlled feature. Any matters herein shown and described other than in connection-with coin controlled mechanism,

This application, as far as the subjectmatterofthe claims is concerned, is a continuation'of applicants application filed December 8, 1904:, Serial No; 235,994, which resulted in Patent No.- 837,337, granted December 4, 1906. v
The object of my invention as claimed in this divisional application, is to provide a coin-controlledlocking mechanism which is normally held in locking position by locking means, the parts being so constructed and arranged relatively to each other that the deposited coin first unlocks the locking means and then causes operation of the locking mechanism itself into releasing position.
The locking means for the mechanlsm which controls a suitable member adapted when released to cause or permit delivery of the vendable articles, positively prevents the accasing automatically unlocks the coin-retaining mechanism and moves i into releasing position.

A is the case and is closed on all sides but the top as at C. At a'distance below the top of the case is a hinged lid B, which is adapted to close the entrance to the interior of the case but whichmay be pushed open when the article and the riser are elevated. The lid B is arranged suiiiciently low down that it cannot be reached to open it.
V is the riser and consists of-a U-shaped frame conveniently fitting the interior of the case and adapted to slide vertically therein. This riser may be lifted by a handle riveted to its bottom and extending through a slot A in the side of the case. The riser may be of any suitable shape so long as it supports the article and is provided or combined with an outwardly extending part by which to move it. The riser W is provided with upright guide walls, the front wall adjacent to the coin controlled lock being slotted as at V D is a locking plate and is movable transversely under the action of the coin. This plate has a backward extension E which acts at a locking bolt for riser lV, holding it from being raised. As shown, the locking plate is upon the outside of the wall of the case and the backward extension E is upon the inside, it passing through a slot 0 in the wall of the case. The locking plate D is provided with a stud F against which. the coin is forced for moving the plate to the left (Fig. 2) to release the riser.

In a coin-controlled look, a casing provided with a movable element which in normal position prevents delivery of the goods in said casing, said casing having a coinchute arranged substantially in the plane thereof, locking mechanism for said element having a part extending into said coin-chute to be engaged by the coin, whereby said mechanism is moved into releasing position, a device for normally locking said mechanism against operation and having a portion projecting into said coin-chute to be engaged by the coin for moving said device into releasing position, and a rotatable coincarrier mounted to operate within said coinchute and adapted to force the deposited coin first against the projecting portion of said device and then against the projecting portion of said mechanism, said coin-carrier having means for forcing the coin out of engagement with said projections through the space between them.

In a coin-controlled look, a casing, a hand-operable coin-carrier for conveying the deposited coin into operative position, a transversely movable locking device having a portion in the path of the coin to be actuated thereby, a movable locking member having a portion adapted to engage said device for normally holdingthe same locked against movement, and a projection on said member arranged below said engaging portion to be engaged by the coin for moving said member into releasing position.

In a coin-controlled machine, a movable device having a coin-engaging part, a second movable device adapted normally to lock said first device against movement and also having a coin-engaging part, said devices being mounted independently of each other, said coin-engaging parts being so spaced and arranged as to receive a coin between t-hem, and means to convey the deposit-ed coin into the space between said parts and into engagement therewith, whereby said coin first actuates said second device to unlock said first device and then actuates the unlocked first device, the coin being automatically discharged from between said parts after said first device has been moved a predetermined amount.

In a coin-controlled vending machine, a casing having a goods-compartment and a movable member which normally prevents delivery of the goods, a device for normally holding said member in a position to prevent delivery of the goods, a second device mounted independently of said first device and normally locking said first device in normal position, said devices having coinengaging portions so arranged that the deposited coin first engages said second device to move the same into unlocking position and then engages the unlocked first device to move the same into position to release said member for causing delivery of the goods.
