To allwhom t may concern.: y.
Be it. known that I, ,SQ'REN C. Roannais, ,a citizen of the United States, yresiding at Philadelphia, in the lcounty of Philadelphia,V
State of'Pennsylvania, have invented certain new anduseful Improvementsin vCom-v My `invention relates to coal .and-[gas ranges and it. comprises a `o onstruetion in which means are provided sfor using orfern- ,pp loying either coal or gas as ,a Aheating .uel

One of theobjects of-.Iny invention is to provide a construction `oonrprisi-ng atop V.plate which is provided with an extension A.adjacent to yone side .of the range -orstove l which extension extends forwardly or front'- l Y,1g-he claims withoutdeparting `from .i11-

In order to prevent ashes, soot, ete., from" wcoMeeting in Ythe'.perorations of the burners f upon the tops of said burners. These plates are pro-.vided with perforatons (notfs'ho'wn) 1l designates a gas burner located in the Vlower portion of the body part of the stove or range and positioned beneath the oven 2 so that the latter may be heated satisfacrf torily in case the gas burner is used instead of a coal orother fuel burning fire-box.
The gas burner 1l receiv-es its gas from the conduit l2 which is connected to the gas supply pipe 13 and is controlled by any well known type of valve 1li.
24 designates the flue which communicates at its lower end with the combustion chamber of the body part l of the range or stove andpasses upwardly, conducting the products of combustion to a suitable chimney or vent not shown.
l A portion of the top plate of the stove or range is projected forwardly substantially at right angles kto the front of the range as indicated at GO to provide an eXtra opening 61 in the top of the range or stove. A permanent gas burner 62 of any suitable construction is provided underneath the opening 61 for furnishing the heat necessary for cooking or similar purposes. Said burner 62 may be provided with a sliding or turning plate such as `10a for preventing the ashes, etc., from entering and closing theperforations of the burner.
By extending the projection forward beyond the front plane of the range or stove, as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawing, ll ain enabled to secure greater capacity without, however, causing a stove to take up or require any additional room in a lateral direction.
1f the part 60 projected from the side instead of the front of the range or stove it will be understood that the range or stove would take up more space along the wall of a room, assuming that it were positioned against the wall upon one side of the room as is usually the case, than when constructed as shown.
1t is also usually the case that the available space yalong any one wall of a kitchen, and particularly in modern apartment houses, is very limited, so that the importance of increasing the capacity of the stove or range without at the same time increasing the lateral space occupied thereby is great.
1n my construction the part 60 projects from the front of the range or stove above the oven door 65 but does not in any way anziana-e interfere with the opening of such door or with the ready access to the oven nor does it interfere with the opening of the door 66 of the fire-box or chamber and the ready access to the same.
1n opening and closing the oven door swings underneath the projection 60 and the burner 62.
