Description

W. S. JONES.
RAZOR STROPPER.
APPLICATI 0N FILED mun Patented Oct. 23, 1917.
inventor Aicomeys Witnesses WALTER SANFORD JONES, or ATHENS, GEORGIA.
nAzon-srnorrnn.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 17, 1917. Serial No. 142,891.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, WALTER S. JoNEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Athens, in the county of Clarke and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Razor-Stropper, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to razor stropping machines, one of its objects being to provide a machine of this character utilizing revoluble stropping elements between which the blade of a razor may be placed and which elements will strop the razor while they are being rotated, there being a support provided for the razor whereby the razor can be shifted while in position so as to be acted upon by either of the stropping elements between which it is placed.
A still further object is to provide a machine of this character which is simple and compact in construction, can be easily operated, and will not injure the blade placed in position therein.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the machine, a portion of one of the stropping elements being broken away.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 Fig. 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates supporting brackets in which is journaled a shaft '2 which may be rotated in any desired manner, as by means of a crank 3. This shaft is provided with a flat face 4 extending longitudinally thereof and slidably mounted on the shaft but revoluble therewith are stropping elements each of which is in the form of a disk 5 having a covering 6' of leather which may extend over a packing 7 of any soft material such as cork, hair or the like. The stropping faces made up of the coverings 6 are held normally together by springs 8 which are mounted on the shaft and bear against the disks 5 and also against collars 9 fastened to the shaft 2. A holding plate 10 is adapted to be secured to a base 11 on which the brackets or bearings 1 are secured and insertible into position under this plate is the base 12 of a standard 13. Said standard is provided at its upper end with parallel angle strips let spaced apart a sufficient distance to receive between them the shank S of a razor blade B.
In using the machine, the shank S of the razor blade is placed between the strips 1d and the stropping elements are shifted apart, after which the base 12 is slid longitudinally under the plate 10 so that the blade B is brought to position between the stropping elements. Said elements are then released and the springs 8 will shift them toward each other so that'they will bind,
upon the blade. By then swinging the handle H of the razor toward one side, the edge of the blade B will be pressed against one of the stropping disks. The rotation of shaft 2 by means of crank 3 will result in said disk rubbing upon the edge portion of the blade and by swinging the handle H to the other side, the other stropping disk will be caused to act on the edge portion of the blade. Thus the blade can be quickly and efficiently stropped on both sides successively simply by swinging the handle H to the right and to the left.
What is claimed is 1. A stropping machine including a shaft mounted for rotation, disks slidably mounted on the shaft and having opposed stropping faces, yielding means for normally holding the stropping faces pressed to gether, and a razor support comprising a standard mounted to slide toward and away from the disks and spaced angle arms projecting from the standard and adapted to embrace the shank of a razor.
2. A stropping machine including a shaft mounted for rotation, disks slidably mount- Patented Oct. 23, 191?.
ed on the shaft and having opposed strop- In testimony that I claim the foregoing ping faces, yielding means for normally as my own I have hereto aifixed my signaholding the stropping faces in contact a ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
standard slidably mounted beside the shaft, WALTER SANFORD J ONES. and spaced arms extending from the stand- Witnesses:
ard and adapted to vloosely embrace the H. H. GANETONT shank of a razor. E. J. CRAWFORD.
