Description

E. L. SONS.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 12. 1917.

INVENTOR.
ERNEST L. SONS, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 16, 1917.
Application filed February 12, 1917. Serial No. 148,286.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST L. SoNs, a citizen of the United States of America, residin at Pittsburgh, county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to advertising devices and has for its object to provide a device of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, with means for attracting atten tion thereto so that the advertising matter displayed by the device will be noticed,
Further objects of the invention are to provide an advertisin device for the purpose set forth which is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, durable, efiicient in its use, readily set up and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects, in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come-within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front elevation of an advertising device in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is an end view.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Fig. 4 is a detail.
Referring to the drawings 1 denotes a rectangular frame having its top bar provided with spaced lengthwise slots 2, three in number, and which terminate at their ends into vertical grooves 3" formed in the inner faces of the side bars of the frame.
Secured to the inner face of each of the top, side and bottom bars of the frame is a beveled molding strip 5.
Mounted in the forward slot 2, as well as the forward grooves 3, and positioned against the inner face of the strips 5, is a removabletranslucent plate 6, provided with any suitable advertising matter and further pro yided with a picture of a dancing girl as at Mounted in the intermediate slot 2 and intermediate groove 3- is a removable transparent plate 8; and mounted in the rear slot 2 and rear groove 3 is a removable transparent plate 9 having the outlines 10 of the figure 7 provided on the plate 6.
The position of the outline in figure 10 alines with the position of the figure 7 Arranged at the rear of the frame is an oscillatory member 11 carrying an incandescent electric light 12, having the leading in-wires 13 connected therewith. The oscillatory member 11 may be operated by any suitable motor and by way of example it is shown as operated by a clock 14 and said member 11 constitutes the pendulum of the clock.
As the member 11 oscillates the light is moved in oscillatory direction at the rear of the frame, causing thereby the outlined figure 10 to cast 9 shadow which gives to the picture 7 the appearance of dancing or moving and such an illusion will naturally attract any ones attention and cause there by the noticing of the advertising matter upon the plate 6.
Pivotally connected to the rear of the frame 1 is a counter-weighted shank 15 which carries the representation of the head of a person, as indicated at 16. The counterweighted shank 15 lies in the path of a stud 17, carried by'the member 11, whereby during the oscillation of the member 11 the head 16 is caused to sway to and fro.
What I claim is An advertising device comprising a rectangular frame, a translucent panel mounted therein and provided with a picture, a transparent panel mounted in the frame and provided with the outlines of a picture, a transparent panel interposed between the said transparent panel and the said translucent panel, an oscillatory member arranged at the rear of the frame and provided with an illuminating device, and'a head pivoted to the frame and rocked to and fro during the oscillating of said member. r
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witneses.
