When a moving picture machine provided with my invention is operated in the usual manner the movement of the film serves to rotate a member having a weighted contact which is held out of engagement with a companion contact by centrifugal force, a spring being provided to move the weighted contact inwardly and into engagement with the said companion contact when the Speed of the member falls below a predetermined rate. The engagement of the contacts closes a circuit which sounds an alarm and which also energizes a magnet to move an armature carryinga circuit breaker, which when so moved opens the circuits which are connected with the film operating motor and the arc.
Still further objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is described.

Figure 1 illustrates in perspective my at-` Fig. 4 is a view similar to that shown in Fig. 3, but with the movable contact in engagement with the shaft on which the rotatable member is mounted.
Fig.l 5 is a diagrammatic view showing the circuits, the movable contact member beingl disposed in outward position to open the primary circuit.
Fig. 6 is a diagrannnatic view similar to that illustrated in Fig. 5, but with the movable contact in position to closethe primary circuit, the shunt being open so that if the primary circuit closes an alarm will be sounded, but the motor and light circuits will not be opened.
Fig. 7 is a diagrammatic View similar to that illustrated in Fig. 6, but with the shunt closed so that the closing of the primary circuit will not only sound an alarm, but also serve to open the motor and light circuits.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that tothe frame 10 of the moving picture machine there is secured a bracket 11 and bearing members 12 a shaft 13 being journaled in the bearings 14 with which the bearing members 12 are provided, a film sprocketv 15 is secured to this shaft 13 for engagement by the film 16 in a manner well understood so that with the movement of the film 16 by the motor 40 the shaft 13 will be rotated.' The `bearing members are insu lated from the frame 10.
Secured to an end of the shaft 13 there is a crown gear 18 which meshes with a gear 19 secured to a shaft 20 journaled in bearings in the bracket 11. Disposed around the shaft 20 there is a member 21 this member 21 being separated from the shaft 20 by insulating material 22 the member 21 nevertheless being secured to rotate with the said shaft 20, and as will be readily understood the member 21 will rotate with the passage of the film 16 over the sprocket 15.
The member 21 is provided with a rim 23 beyond the insulating material 22 and in this rim 23 there is a guideway 24 through which a pin 25 is disposed, this pin 25 being secured to a contact 26 the said contact being normally held yieldingly inwardly by a spring 27, the contact when disposed 1nwardly being in engagement with the shaft 2O which is in electrical connection with the bracket 11 through ithe bearings in which the shaft 20 is journaled. It will therefore be understood that when the machine isnot in operation the member 20 will not rotate and the contact 26 will engage the shaft 2O to close the circuit 28 shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 of the drawings. In this circuit 28 there is a battery 29 and a bell 30. Should thefilln 16 break it will no longer engage the sprocket to rotate the shaft 13 and in consequence the member 21' will slow down and consequently stop. When the speed of the member 21 falls below a predetermined point the contact 26 will no longer be held outwardly by centrifugal force and in the position illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, for it will be moved inwardly under influence of the spring 27 and into engagement with the shaft 20 t0`close the circu'it 28, as will be seen by referring to Fig. 6 of the drawings. By this means the bell 30 will be rung to sound an alarm. When the moving picture machine is not in use the circuit 28 is opened by means of the switch 31 so that the bell 30 will be silenced.
Connected with the circuit 28 there is a shunt 32 which leads to magnets 33 for operating an armature 34 on a circuit breaker 35. This circuit breaker 35 is held yieldingly in closed position by means of a spring 36, the circuit breaker 35 having a contact member 37 for opening and closing the circuit 38 which leads from the course of electrical supply 39 to the motor 40, for operating the moving picture machine. The circuit breaker 35 also has a contact mem ber 41 for opening and closing the circuit 42 leading from the course of electrical supply 39 to the arc light 43. In the said shunt 32 there is a switch 44 which is opened when the operator merely wishes to have the bell 30 ring should the film 16 break, but when the operator is desirous of having the motor 40 stopped and the `light 43 put out should the film 16 break he closes the' switch 44's0 that the magnet 33 will be energized by the battery 29 on the closing of the circuit 28 by the means which have been described the energizing of the mag' nets 33 attracting the armature 34 so that the circuit breaker 35 will be moved to the position illustrated in Fig. 7 of the drawings to open the circuits 38 and 42 for the purpose specified. i
As has been stated, the shaft 20 is in electrical communication with the bracket 11. A binding post 45 is secured to this bracket 11 for one of the terminals of the circuit 28 the other terminal of the circuit 28 is secured to a binding post 46 insulated from the bracket 11 by the insulator 47 the said binding post 46 having a brush 48 which contacts with a hub 49 on the member 21, this hub 49 as well as the member 21 being separated from lthe shaft 20 by the insulating material 22.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which 'it is adapted to be rotated by afilm, a rotatable member having a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which the shaft is adapted to rotate the member, a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact when the latter is moved outwardly with the rotation of the member, the second contact being in position for engagementby the first contact when the latter moves inwardly, means for holding the iirst contact yieldingly inwardly, a circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts and an electrical alarm in the circuit. 2. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to be rotated by a film, a rotatable member having a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which lthe shaft is adapted to rotate the member, a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact when the latter is moved outwardly with the rotation of the member, the second contact be ing in position for engagement by the first contact when the latter moves inwardly, a moving picture operating means including an electrical circuit, a circuit breaker in the electrical circuit, a second circuit including a source of electrical supply convnected with the contacts, and means in the second circuit for operating the circuit breaker. i 3. 4. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to be rotated by a` film, a rotatable member having a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which the shaft is adapted to rotate the member, a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact for the moving picture machine, a circuit connected with the electric motor, a circuit breaker in the electrical circuit, a -second circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts and means in the second circuit for operating the circuit breaker.
5. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a bracket adapted to be attached to a moving picture machine, a shaft journaled in bearings in the bracket and having electrical connection therewith, a member secured to the shaft and insulated therefrom, a contact mounted on the member and movable to and from the shaft, means for holding the contact yieldingly in engagement with the shaft, a bearing member, a second shaft normally j ournaled in the bearing member, means on the second shaft for engagement by a film, means by which the second shaft is adapted to rotate the first shaft and means for connecting wires electrically with the bracket 'and the member.
6. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a bracket adapted to be attached to a moving picture machine, a shaft journaled in bearings in the bracket and having electrical connection therewith, a member secured to the -shaft and insulated therefrom,
'a contact mounted on the member and movable to and from the shaft, means for holding the contact yieldingly in engagement with the shaft, a bearing member, a second shaft normally journaled in the bearing member, means on the second shaft for engagement by a film, means by which the second shaft is adapted to rotate the first shaft, a circuit, including a source of electrical supply connected with the bracket and the member and an electrical alarm in the circuit.
7. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a bracket adapted to be attached to a moving picture machine, a shaft journaled in bearings in the bracket and having electrical connection therewith, a member secured to the shaft and insulated therefrom, a contact mounted on the member and movable to and from the shaft, means for holding the contact yieldingly in engagement with the shaft, a bea-ring member, a second shaft normally journaled in the bearing member, means on the second shaft `for engagement by a film, means by which the second shaft is adapted to rotate the first shaft, a moving picture operating means including an electric circuit, a circuit breaker in the electric circuit, a second circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the bracket and the member and means in the second circuit for operating the circuit breaker. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to be rotated by a film, a rotatable member, a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which the shaft is adapted to rotate the member, a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact when the latter is moved outwardly with the rotation of the member, the second contact being in posi` tion for engagement by the first contact when the latter moves inwardly, means for holding' the first contact yieldingly inwardly, an operating motor, an electric light, two circuits, one for the motor and the other for the electric light, a circuit breaker for opening the two circuits, resilient means for holding' the circuit breaker in closed position` au armature on the circuit breaker, a magnet for moving the armature to open the circuits, and a circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts for energizing the magnet.
9. In an attachment for moving` picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to be rotated by a film, a rotatable member having a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which the shaft is adapted to rotate the member. a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact when the latter is moved outwardly with the rotation of the member, the second contact being in position for engagement by the first contact when the latter moves mwardlv, means for holding the first contact, yieldingly inwardly, a circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts, an electrical alarm in the circuit, a moving picture operating means including an electric circuit, a circuit breaker in the second circuit, a shunt connected with the first circuit, and electrical means in the shunt for operating the circuit breaker.
10. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to. be rotated by a film, a rotatable member having a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which the shaft is adapted to rotate the member, a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact when the latter is moved outwardly with the rotation of the member, the second contactbeing in position for engagement by the iirst conctact when -the latter moves inwardly, means for holding the first contact yieldingly inwardly, a circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts, an electrical alarm in the circuit, a moving picture operating means including an electric circuit, a circuit breaker in the second circuit, a shunt, a shunt connected with the first circuit, electrical means in the shunt for operating the circuit breaker, and a switch in the shunt.
11. In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to be rotated by a film, a rotatable member having a contact mounted thereon and movable outwardly, means by which the shaft is adapted to rotate the member, a second contact out of electrical communication with the first contact when the latter is moved outwardly with the rotation of the member, the second contact being in position for engagement by the first contact when the latter moves inwardly, means for holding the first contactyieldingly inwardly, a circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts, an electrical alarm in the circuit, a-moving picture operating means including an electric circuit, a circuit breaker in the second circuit, a shunt, a shunt connected with the first circuit, electrical means in the shunt` journaled in bearings in the bracket, the second shaft having electrical connection with the bracket, a member secured to the second shaft and insulated therefrom, a contact mounted on the member and movable to and from the shaft, means for holdin the contact yieldingly in engagement wit the shaft, means by which the first shaft is adapted to rotate the second shaft, and means for connecting wires electrically with the bracket and the member.

In an attachment for moving picture machines, a shaft having means by which it is adapted to be rotated by a film, two contacts, means operable when the speed of the shaft falls below a predetermined point to open electrical communication between the contacts, a circuit including a source of electrical supply connected with the contacts, an electrical alarm in the circuit, a moving picture operating means including an electrical circuit, a lcircuit breaker in the second circuit, a shunt connected with the first circuit, electrical means in thel shunt for operating the circuit breaker, and a switch in the shunt.
