To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I,-Cr-rRIsTIAN DOUSEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunnyside, in the county of Carbon and State of Utah, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Bale and Package Ties, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in bale and package ties, and has particular reference to a simple and cheap device formed preferably of a simple blank or sheet of metal or other suitable material having means struck therefrom for connection with one extremity of a cord or similar flexible tying medium, means also being struck from the blank for gripping the free extremity of said tying medium.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of the class above described which may be quickly and easily applied in tying position on a package or the like, and when so applied positively holds the tying medium against slipping or loosening.

Other objects and advantages will appear from the following detail description and claims and from an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved package tie showing the same applied in tying position on a package,

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which my improved tie is formed.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, in which similar reference characters designate like and corresponding parts, 1

designatesablank or sheet of metal or other suitable material preferably rectangular in configuration. The blank is provided with a pair of transversely arranged opposed tongues 2 and 3 struck therefrom and slightly bent outwardly and at relatively diiferent degrees for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. The tongue 2 is provided with an aperture 4: in which one end of a flexible tying element 5 may be engaged. The tongue 3 is tapered and the tongue 2 is preferably rounded for a purpose hereinafter set forth.

In forming the tongues 2 and 3 the end of the tongue 2 is rounded in the stamping process, and there maybe allowed a space between the ends of said tongues when the same are bent outwardly to permit of passage therebetween of the intermediate portion of the flexible tying element. The tongues are bent along the dotted lines 7.

The tongues 6 may be struck from the blank in a manner similar to the tongues 2 and 3 and are bent along the dotted lines 8.

In applying my device in tying position the same is placed, if desired, on a package as shown in Fig. 1. The cord 5 is now looped once about the package, the intermediate portion of the. cord or twine being guided beneath the tongue 3 by the rounded end of the tongue 2. The cord is now looped about the package at right angles to the first loop and the free extremity thereof is engaged under the tongues 6, which tongues firmly and frictionally hold said extremity. Accidental slipping of the tying device is practically impossible and it will be noted that in arranging the pairs of tongues at substantially right angles the pull on the tying element is evenly distributed, being equal in all directions.

The utility, adaptability, and advantages of my improved form of bale and package tie being obvious, it is unnecessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.

Having now described and pointed out the new and useful features of my invention, I do not limit myself to the shape of cer tain parts, where the shape is not essential, nor do I restrict myself to the exact details 'of construction shown and described, but

mean and intend to claim all equivalents and variations thereof, not departing in principle from my invention, and falling within the purview of the appended claims.

That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A package tie formed from a blank of suitable material, a pair of opposed tongues struck therefrom, one of said tongues being rounded and the other tapered to receive one end and the intermediate portion of a tying element, and a plurality of spring clamping tongues struck from said blank and bent outwardly therefrom to detachably engage the free extremity of the tying element.

2. A package tie formed from a blank of metal, including a pair of opposed tongues struck up from said blank and arranged transversely thereof at one end, one of said tongues being rounded and having a perma nent engagement With one end of a tying element, the other of said pair of tongues being tapered and bent outwardly from the blank to receive the intermediate portions of the tying element, and an additional pair of opposed tongues struck up from said blank and extending longitudinally thereof adjacent the opposite end to engage the free extremity of the tying element.
