Description

NETE@ STT@ ATENT FFQE.
FRANK O. LARSON, OF AURORA, ILLINOIS, ASSGNOR TO BATH-BONE, SARE) & COlVI- PANY, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION.
s'rovn.
Application led June 7, 191'?.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, F RANK O. LARsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing` at the city of Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to stoves, and the object of my invention is to provide a means for moving a gas oven bottom, with a gas burner in connection therewith, out of the way when the stove is used with coal as a fuel and placing it in a horizontal position in the oven when the stove is to be used with gas, and by the movement of the oven bottom opening or closing an air inlet for furnishing oxygen for combustion in the oven when gas is burned therein; together with such other elements and combinations as are hereinafter more particularly set forth.
l accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a front elevation of a stove.
Fig. 2 is a section along the line, A-A, on Fig. l.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Vhen a combination gas andcoal stove is used with gas as the heating element, l have provided a gas oven bottom, B, under which is a gas burner, C. yBoth the gas burner, C, and oven bottom, B, are supported in a casting, D, which is mounted on a pipe, E, secured in the oven, F. The casting, D, is provided with a pinion, G, adapted to project between the teeth, H and J, on the sliding damper, K. The pipe, E, projects through an opening at one side of the stove where it is provided with an arm, O, which is connected by means of a link, M, to the end of the pivoted lever, N, by the operation of which lever the oven bottom, B, and burner, C, may be raised or lowered. The pinion, G, engaging one of the teeth, H or J, when the lever is operated will move the damper, K, so as to open or close the air Specification of Letters 'atent. v Patented-Sept?. 25, 191V?.

inlet, L, depending upon the direction of the movement of the lever.
When the oven bottom is in the position shown in Fig. 2, it is folded out of the way at the back of the oven, leaving the oven unobstructed and capable of use when coal is used as a fuel and the damper closed. /Vhen the oven is to be used with gas the oven bottom is moved to occupy a horizontal position, which movement will open the air inlet, L, which will supply the necessary oxygen for the burning of the gas through the burner, C.
l/Vhat l claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. ln a stove provided with an oven, a gas oven bottom; a burner connected therewith; rotatable means for mounting said burner and oven bottom within the oven; a pinion projecting from said means adapted to engage one of two teeth between which the said pinion is projected; a sliding damper adapted to reciprocate along the bottom of the oven; an air inlet in the bottom of the oven over which said damper may be moved, closing the orifice of said inlet in the oven; and means for raising or lowering said oven bottom 'and burner ancL regulating the ad mission of air to the oven from the outside of the stove.
2. rhe combination of a stove provided with an oven; a gas oven bottom; a burner connected therewith; rotatable means for mounting said gas oven bottom and burner within the oven; a pinion connected with said means; a sliding damper; a rack on said sliding damper adapted to be operated by said pinion; an air inlet in the bottom of said oven adapted to be closed by said damper; and means without the oven for moving said gas oven bottomA and said damper simultaneously.
ln testimony whereof l have aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK 0. LARSON.
Witnesses:
