FLYING-MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANISLAW PAUL ZYWNO, a citizen of Russian ing at Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flying-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in flying machines, and the object of my improvement is to produce a flying machine that operates by the vibration of a pair of wings after the manner of a bird.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved flying machine.

My improved flying machine comprises a pair of lateral wings 10 positioned one on each side of a central house or cab structure 11 that are supported and inter-connected so as to vibrate in unison, and operated by a motor 12 of any suitable form.
The house 11 isa skeleton structure of appreciable width and length and is covered with or other sheet material, the said roof 13 be ing of suitable area to have an appreciable efiect as an air plane when the machine is operated at high speed. The side walls 1A support near the upper end a transversely extending control shaft 15, the ends 16 of which project outwardly laterally, and below the control shaft 15 is a countershaft 17 On the control shaft 15 is mounted a control gear 18 that cooperates with a sector 19.

be set.. By moving the arm 20 back and forth the control shaft 15 is rotated correspondingly, and the wings 10 are so connected to the control shaft 15 that they are tilted as the control shaft 15 is rotated.
As one means of operating the arm 20 I provide on the lower end' thereof a second sector 50 that engages with a worm 51 provided on the worm shaft 52.
At one end of the worm shaft 52 and located in a convenient position to be manipulated by the operator I provide a crank arm 53. The wings 10 are connected to the ends 16 of the control shaft 15 by a pivotal connection 21 that permits of a generally up and down swinging movement of the wings 10.
The lower part 22, of the house 11 is formed suitably to provide a bed for the motor 12 and to support the middle part of the main shaft 23. Extending downwardly from the house 11 is acradle structure 24 that is provided with a pair of wheels 25 of the usual form. v
At the lower part of the house 11. and extending laterally from the bed 22 and along the main shaft 23 is a frame 26 of suitable light and strong construction for operatively supporting the outer end portions of the main shaft 23.
The main shaft 23 is provided at about the middle with a main gear 27 that is oper atively connected with the motor 12 by a set of gears 28 and at the ends is provided with a pair of crank arms 29 that are connected with the wings 10 in a manner to be described. The connections to the crank arms 29 comprise in each case a block 30 pivotally mounted on the crank pin 31, the said block 30 having on the upper end a short, longitudinally extending pivotal pin 32 that serves as the means for connection withthe upwardly extending connecting rod 33, the case as described of a combination that permits of raising and lowering the connecting rod 33 and at the same time permits of swinging the same back and forth, after the The wings 10 extend laterally from the 7 ends 16 of the control shaft 15 and are built up of a border frame 36 having a longitudin'al cross-rib 37 at about the middle and covered with a web 38 of thin sheet alumimovement for a particular setting inforce the same. 30
