'Laaosee Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept., 25, T91?.
Application filed. July 10, 1916. Serial No. 108,352.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it knownthat I, DAVID LEVY, a subject of the Czar of Russia, having filed intentions to become a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes for cleaning kettles, buckets, tubs and like articles, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class the transverse dimensions of which may be adjusted so as to adapt the brush for use in kettles, buckets, tubs and like articles of different transverse dimensions, and which is also provided with a handle member by which it is manipulated, said handle member also serving as means for adjusting the transverse dimensions of the brush, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed and operated, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Vith the above and other objects in view whichwill hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, .in which- Figure 1 1s an elevational view of the brush,
Fig. 2 is a sectional viewextended, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line AwA, Fig. 1.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings, in which 1 indicates my improved brush which consists of a horizontal bottom portion 2 and vertical side portions 3 and l extending` at right angles from the opposite ends thereof. The part 2 is divided longi` tudinally into two sections 5 and 6 slidably connectedtogether by means of a connecting member 7 which is shaped in the form of a dove-tail groove and is fixed to the section 5 and the turned-in edges 8 and 9 thereof engage the beads 10 and 11 formed on the section 6 and operate in the grooves 12 and 13 of said section 6, whereby said sections 5 and 6 are extensibly connected.
I also provide a handle member consist ing of right and left screws 14 and 15 secured in any desired way to the inner faces 16 and 17 of the side portions 3 and 4:, and a sleeve 22 mounted on said screws and provided with corresponding threads, and by means of this handle member the brush may be manipulated in articles of the class specied for the purpose of cleaning said articles, and by the manipulation of the sleeve 22 on the screws 14e and 15, the transverse dimensions of the brush may be adjusted, as will be readily understood, so as to adapt said brush for use in kettles, buckets, tubs and the like of different transverse dimensions.
Through the above arrangement, this brush may be made to fit snugly into the ordinary pots, kettles, buckets and pans of household or hotel use and by inserting the brush into the article to be cleaned and adjusting it to fit and then rotating rapidly back and forth, the bottom and side walls as well as the corners of the device may readily and easily be cleansed of any foreign matter, the corners 23 and 9A of the brush being adapted to be forced into the corners of the article being cleaned.
I-Iaving now described my invention, that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is z- A brush of the class specified, comprising two parallel side brush members connected at one end by overlapping brush members secured thereto and slidably connected, said side members being also connected by a handle device consisting of right and left screws secured thereto, and a sleeve mounted on said screws and having corresponding threads whereby the dimensions of the brush may be adjusted by turning said sleeve.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID LEVY.
