ARTIFICIAL CHRISTMAS TREE.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of an arti-- ficial Christmas tree embodying my invention, and
Fig. 2, a longitudinal section partly in side view of part thereof.
From a stem 1, mounted on a base 2, project a number of branches arranged in a series of spaced superposed clusters. Each branch is formed of intertwisted strands of wires 3 (or wires intertwistecl with cord), between which are interwoven, short metal threads or tinsels l, preferably arranged in tufts, and radiating from the wires in diiferent directions. The inner ends of wires 3 are bent downwardly to extend into parallelism with stem 1, and the downwardly extended ends of each cluster of wires is attached to said stem by means of a common binding string or wire 5, wound around such ends. The stem is enveloped at its lower end, and also between the branches, by paper or similar coverings 6, which conceal the connection between stem and branches, so that the latter appear to project directly from the stem.
The tree constructed as described, has a handsome glittering and brushy appearance; its limbs are foldable against the trunk, and of a strength to readily support Christmas tree ornaments. The tree may be manufactured at comparatively small cost, and is practically fireproof, more particularly at its branches which would be most liable to catch fire.
I claim:
1. An artificial Christmas tree comprising a stem, a plurality of branches extending.
therefrom, each branch being formed of a number of intertwisted strands and of short metal tinsel threads interwoven with the strands, and radiating therefrom in diflerent directions.
2. An artificial Christmas tree comprising a stem, a plurality of branches extending therefrom, each branch being formed of a number of intertwisted strands and of tufted metal tinsel threads interwoven with said strands, binders that connect the inner ends of said branches to said stem, and coverings which envelop the stem at its lower end and also between said branches, said coverings extending over the inner ends of said branches and over said binders.
