Epecifioateg or Letters ys-teat.
iateiatei. Eiiey iii, i915.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that L CHARLES W. Dana; a citizen of the United States, residing at Chiin the county of Cook and State oi lllinois, have invented a certain new and us. improvement in Brackets for Loconiouveiieedlights, of which the following is a specification invention relates to improvements in brackets for electric headlights and the like and has for one object to provide a new and implored form of light bracket which will support a source of light and which will en' able it to be conveniently and accurately adjusted in position to focus ii; in the reilecion ohiects of the invention will develop in the course of the specification.
The invention, therefore, is illustrated in the acmmpanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a section through a head case showing the electric bracket in elevation;
is a rear View of the lamp bracket adjusting means with parts broken away; Fig. 3 is a from; view of the same; Fig. -i is a section on the line H of ig. 3; Fig. 5 is a swtion on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3 with parts removed; Figs. 6 and 7 are sections on the line 6- 3 and 77 of Fig. 2.
Like parts are indicated by like letters throughout the several figures.
A is a platform or base upon which is mounted the headlight case A having a hinged rear door A and a front glass A". A parabolic mirror or reflector A is contained within the case and held in position by any suitable means here indicated as screws A engaging the ring A in the case. This parabolic reflector is provided with a central aperture at its bottom as indicated.
B is a foundation block resting on the hose A. It has rigidly mounted thereon a bracket base B. This bracket base B has upwardly projecting from it a supporting arm B which extends rearwardly and upwardl from the base and which carries a rectangular frame B.
B, B" a1'e arms projecting forwardly from the rectangular frame, B, and B are curved reflector contacting surfaces adapting to engage 'aridrest 'nst the out/er surface of the reflector a proper positioning of l'wpectto. theflreflector.
fixed position when the device is aaseznhlegl: With this fixed l'lffifih'ci it a nmr w have means for adjusting the light source which in the preeent instance 1 have shown as an incandescent filament in three direo' tions the gw i'iicc of Eight, at the roper focal point in the reflector. It. mush pea silile to more the of light. up and down in a roriicai piano. 1%, he poai hie to more it from to side in a horizo tat piano and also to more it iozwitndinally along the axis of the reflector an I provide means forgiving the electric Ramp socket all these movements.
C, C are V-shaped slots in the rectangular frame F partially formed by a removable cover plate C Slidahly mounted and free to shde vertically in these slots is a rectangular late or carriage (3 having a sharpened shaped edge to engage these slots.
C is a screw-threaded boss at the top of the frame B and C a screw-threaded boss at the top of the frame C C3 is a screw having a rightdiand thread in threaded engagement with the boss C and a lefthanded thread in engagement with the boss C so that a rotation of the screw will give. owing to the fact that the screw moves with respect to both frames, a movement to the slidable frame equal to the sum total of the two respective movements.
0' is a thumb nut for manipulation of the screw and C a lock nut screw threaded. on the screw.
grooved or hearing- It will he noted that the rectangular frame B has a front web (I apertured to leave a substantially square hole having curved corners.
D, D are inclined bearing surfaces on the frame C in engagement with these two inclined bearing surfaces is a rectangular plate D which plate is free to slide along these bearing surfaces in a horizontal direction being guided partially by them, partially by the plate C and partially by the web C.
I), D are screw-threaded bosses on the plates C, D engaged by a similar screw D having a right-hand thread and left-hand thread to engage said bosses, D and a lock out D" in a horizontal direction.
E is a bearing ring rigdly mounted in the plate D. a
a thumb piece v li is a sleeve slidahle in th'; hearin ri' E and containing a standard cl a: socket E E, E are screw-threaded bosses on "the 5 sleeve E and the plate D.
is a screw having right and'left hacd threads in engagement with said b an provided with a' thumb piece and; inch nut E. I
1o F is an electric light hello with a iiiiiii filh F in engagement with the socket E F are electric li ht wires passing out from the rear end 0 the socketand elects E" through the insulating sleeve F nod passing through: the wall of the headli housing to any source of electrical Pinki" not here illustrated;
I claim:
1. A bracket for locomotive headlights and the like comprising a fixed supporting mom I her,means carriedtherehy for supporting an electric light and for movhig it in horizontal and in a vertical plane along threc lines in such planes each perpendicular to the others.
2. A bracket for locomoti ve headlights and the like comprising a fixed supporting member, separate means carried thereby for supporting an electric light and for moving in a horizontal and in a vertical plane.
'3. A bracket for locomotive headlights and the like comprising a fixed supporting member, separate means carried thereby for sup porting an electric light and for moving it in a horizontal and in a vertical plane along" three lines in such planes each perpendicular to the others 4. A support for locomotive headlights and the like comprising a fixed bracket,'a car 40 riage mounted thereon, means for moving it along a vertical line, a slide in said carriage and means for movingiit with respect to said carriage along a horizontal line, a light supporting sleeve in said slide and i5-menns for moving it along a horizontal line nor mndicular to the line of movement of. l l v th I 1:107
