Description
S. W. PASCALL. AIR TIGHT COVER FOR JARS AND BOTTLES.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 26, 1914.
Patented May 4, 1915.
SYDNEY WOOIDROFEE PASCALL, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
AIR-TIGHT COVER FOR JARS AND BOT'LLES.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented May a, 1915,
Application filed March 26, 1914. Serial No. 827,294.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYDNEY Woonnorrn PASCALL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Tight Covers for J ars and Bottles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to produce air tight covers for jars and bottles in an economical way. For this purpose I employ a thin metal disk between the screw cap and the cork disk in a'manner I shall now describe with the aid of the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical section of the outer cap forming part of my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the thin, circular me tallic dlsk which I employ; Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the cork disk, and Fig. 4 is a section taken across the top of a jar, showing my improved cover assembledthereupon. i
Referring to the drawings, the cap, which isindicated by a, is of the ordinary construction except that it is concaved throughout, the entire area of its top portion, while the disk or stretcher b, which is made of thin metal of slightly less diameter than cap a, is concaved throughout the major portion of its central area, though it's concavity is preferabl not as deep as that in the cap. The sea in disk, WhlCll is indicated by 0, may be of cor or other pliable material and is of .-,ulficie nt area to cover the mouth of the 'iottle or jar which is indicated by d.
In assembling my improved cover, the disk 0 is placed across the mouth of the jar, the metallic disk I) with its concave surface facing upwardly, is placed on top of'disk 0 and the cap a is screwed down upon the neck of the jar inthe usual manner, the convex surface of, the cap engaging the concave surface of the metallic disk, while the latter stretches the cork disk across the mouth of the bottle or jar and at the same time compresses the outer edge of the cork on the top of the bottle.
It will be noted that the concavity of the 'outer cap a is somewhat deeper than that prising a cover having a threaded flange for securing it over the mouth of the receptacle and a centrally dished portion, a disk of flexible material positioned on the top and over the mouth of said receptacle, and a centrally dished metallic disk interposed between the fiexible'disk and the cover, the dished portions of said cover and last named dish engaging each other when 'said cover is screwed down over the mouth of the receptacle.
2. A. closure for jars or other receptacles having a relatively large mouth comprising an outer dished cover having a threaded flange for connecting it to the receptacle, a cork disk upon the end of the receptacle a dished disk interposed between said cork disk and the said cover, said disk having its dishing somewhat shallower than the dishing of the rover whereb thesaid cover primarily engages said dis in the center.
In testimony whereof l have afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
