T0 all whom it may concern.' l Be it known that I, Orro N. WAELTI, a citizen of Canada, residing at Watsomin the Province of Saskatchewan, and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Rail-Ties, of which the following is a specification. A The present invention relates to improve- .ments in-ties for railway rails, the object being to construct a metallic tie which shall be simple, strong and durable, and which will embody the desired amount of elastic- Another object of the invention is the provision of a metallic tie which may be readily inserted within the roadbed orremoved therefroms desired.
Other objects and advantages of the device'will appear as the nature of the invention is more fully disclosed, and in the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a Simple and satisfactory reduction of my irnprovement reduced to practice, it bein understood that various changes in the orm, size and construction thereof, may be made without departin from the spirit of the invention or sacricing any of the advantages thereof.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view ofa tie constructed in accordance with the present invention, a rail, indicated by the dotted lines, being secured thereon, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal sectional vieW of the same.
The tie may be cast, molded or pressed from a single sheet of material, it being necessary, however', that the said material shall naturally embody a desired amount ofl resiliency to permit of the tie accomplishing its usefuly function.
The tie includes a body l which is horizontally straight, and which, in reality, provides the top for the tie. The body at its ends and at its center has longitudinal angun larly arranged legs 2 which terminate in offset feet, the said feet being extended outwardly of the legs. The top of the tie, at a.short,but suitable distance from the end legs is formed with transverse depressed portions 4, the same being of a width equaling the width 'of the base iiangzes of the rails to" be supported upon the tie, and the side the longitudinal edges of the rails. From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly .apparent to those skilled in the art to which such inventions appertain Without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
l. A railway tie comprising a top having its sides formed with angularly disposed legs which terminate in outturned feet, the said tie having its top provided with rail receiving depressions, and means for securing the rails upon the tie and within the said depressions. 2. A tie including a top having its side edges adjacent its ends and at its center formed with downturned legs which terminate in outturned feet, the top of the tie adjacent its end legs having rail receiving depressions, the lower walls of the depressions being extended beyond the opposite sides of the tie and having openings for the reception of securing elements, whereby rails may be sustained upon the `tie and within the depressions.
