To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Roscon C. IDDINGs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery, State of Ohio, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Holders for Fire-Extinguishers and the like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactgdescription.

My invention relates to holders for fire extinguishers, although with suitable modification it might be used as a holder for other emergency devices, the object being to have the emergency device in a place aside elevation of the holder,

and is provided where it is easy of access, where it can be instantly removed from the holder with but slight exertion and which can not be removed from the holder without furnishing evidence that it has been removed.

10 indicates the body portion, which is adapted tobe secured to a Wall or other support. The lower end of the member 10 is bent outward forming the extension 11, with an aperture 12. The upper end of the member 10 is bent outward to form an extension 13 and is provided with a recess 14. While the member 10 and extension 11 may be made of any suitable material, for the sake of economy, they are of the same material and integral with the extension 13. shown with dotted lines has a projection 15 resting in the aperture 12 and a handle refer to similar parts 16 which is embraced by the recess 14:. extension 13 must have suiiicient resilience to yield and permit the extinguisher to inserted in the holder. The extinguisher is further held by a resilient clamp 17 preferably formed of spring metal and riveted to the member 10. The arms of the clamp ave apertures 18 at their extremities through which a string or fine wire may be threaded and, passing in front of the extinguisher, prevent its being removed from the holder. The ends ofthe string or wire are secured with a seal. A tongue 19 carried by the member 10, passing through an ap- The extinguisher extension at the base erture in a lug 20 on the extinguisher, prevents the extinguisher being rotated in the holder. Whether or not thetongue is used depends upon the style or construction of the extinguisher. In some pump extinguishers, for example, where the handle must not be turned until they are used, the tongue and lug prevent the extinguisher being turned in the holder, while, obviously, the extension 13 prevents the handle being turned.

It will be observed that the extinguisher 1S gripped by the resilient clamps in a manner which prevents it moving or rattling in the holder. This is importantwhere they are subjected to jars or vibratory disturbance, as, for example, when placed on auto mobiles and auto trucks. In place of the aperture '12, a recess 21 may be formed on the extension 11, if preferred.

'Vhat I claim is as follows:

1. As an article of manufacture, a holder for fire extinguishers and similar devices, comprising a main body portion having an extension at the base thereof formed with an aperture to receive a projection extending from the bottom of the extinguisher; a pair of spring clips extending from the middle part of said body portion and adapted to embrace the body portion of said extinguisher; a lug body portion of the holder in proximity to said spring clips and adapted to enter a recess in the extinguisher to prevent rotation thereof; and an upper arm extending from said body portion having a resilient mounting and suitable recess to receive the handle portion of said extinguisher and by said resiliency to bear downward to hold the extinguisher longitudinally in place.

As an article of manufacture, a holder for fire extinguishers and similar devices, comprising a main body portion having an thereof formed with an aperture to receive .a projection extending from the bottom of the extinguisher, and having a resilient extension at the top with a suitable recess to receive the handle portion of the extinguisher; said body portion carrying a resilient clamp which'partially surrounds the body of the extinguisher. p w

A holder for an emergenc device, comprising a body portion adapted to be secured to a wall or other support, said body having a pair of resilient opposing arms projecting from said that the act of inserting or removin tending to move toward each other, and a second pair of resilient opposing arms attached to the body, said arms tending also to move toward each other, the direction of said tendency being difierent from that of the first pair of arms, whereby the emergency device is restrained from movement in four directions, the arms being so formed the s the or out of the emergency device automatically sprea arms until it has passed into holder.
