RAZOR.
Washington, have invented a certain newy and usei'ul improvement in Razors, of which l the following is a speeilieation.
My invention relates to improvements in razors and the object ot' my .improvement lis to provide a blade holding device of novel construction, l accomplish this object by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which--` `Figure 1 is a view in side elevation oi a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the saine showing the blade holding jaws in an open position and a fragment of the blade holding portion broken away. and Fig. 3 is an enlarged. view in cross-seetion on broken line w, a@ of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in which like rreference numerals indicate likeparts, 5 is a razor handle that is provided at one end with a blade holding portion 6, which blade holding portion (3 is formed with a tapering slot 7 extending edgewise therethrough su'eh slot 7 being longer at the rear edge of the edge thereof.
. Two bladerlamping plates 8 and 9 are adapted to titwithin the slot 7 as shown in l? 1 and 3, each of such plates having its inner end pivotal-ly secured within the notch 7 b v a pin 10 and being adapted to swing outwardly on such pin l() as illustrated in Fig. 1;. i i
t blade 11 provided with' perlorations l), .l2 is adapted to be placed between `the blade holding plates 8 and il, the perforatirns l2, 12, being formed to tit over lugs. 13, 19s that are provided on the sur'laee oi' the member 8, and perforations lll, 14,'into which the lugs 13, 13 may extend, being formed in the member 9, thus ser ing to hol-d the members 8, and 9 and the blade 1l in their proper relative positions when the liado-(dumping nienilnxrs are closed.
A notehl is provided in the outermost rear corner ot the blade holding portion (l of the. handle and outwardly projecting Alugs 16, 1G are provided on the outermost rear c .:rners oi' each of the blade-elainping members 8 ainl 9, such .notch 15 and such Specification of Letters Patent.
, blade holding portion than it is at the iront Patented oan.l 5, biglia.,
' Application led November 13, 1913. Serial No. 300,736.
ln operating my razor the linger may be vbe swung backwardly until thev lugs 13, 13
project within' the holes la, 14 and the blade 11 is held between the plates 8 and 9. The blade-clamping plates may then be closed as shown in Figs. l and 3, the wedge shaped blade-clamping plates li'tting within the tapering notch 7 and clamping the blade in a fixed position and the friction between the made to engage lugs 16, 16 and the bladeseveral parts serving to prevent the bladeclamping members from swinging back# Wardly under ordinary usage. he device may then be used as an ordinary straight blade razor.
Obviously changes in the-details embodied in my device may be made without departA ing-trom the spirit of my invention'or sacrificing any of its advantages. y
1What I Claim is:
1. The combination with a. razorbandle havinga blade-holder extension, slotted at its edges and having oppositely-inclined sides to provide a wedgeshaped through slet, of eo-acting wedge-shaped clamping plates formed at their inner ends with parallclperorated lugs, and adapted to clamp a razor blade between them, and a pivotal support 'for said plates extending through said lugs and through the sides et saideX- tension.
The combination with a razor-handle termed with a blade-holder extension slotted along its top and bottom edges, and having its inner sides opposite-ly inclined to provide a longitudinally extending wedge.-
shaped slot, of wedge-shaped plates pivetally secured at their inner ends to the sides et' said extension and adapted to clamp a razor blade between them-.and to project,
through sffot at the lbottom edge of said my name this 29th lday of October, A. D. extension, and provided at their free ends l9l3.` with projecting lugs alined with a cut-away portion at the outer end of said `extensionV ALBERT o' GALL" 5 to provide finger-pieces for raising said Witnesses:
plates. FRANK YV.\1um::e,
Inwitness whereof, I, hereunto subscribe J. C. GAWNEY.
