The object of my invention is, to provide a support for face plates that will allow a limited vertical and a limited longitudinal movement of the buffer stems connected to the face plate, and at the same time will relieve the buffer stems of considerable weight and prevent undue wear of said stems.

Connecting rods 2l-21, preferably two 1n number, are extended one etween each upper bracket 19 and the lower bracket 20 on the same side of the diaphragm face plate, each of said rods being pivotally connected to the upper bracket l9 by suitable means, preferably the bolt 22 passing through the jaw 23 ofthe bracket arm 24 and through a suitable per- The rod foration in the end of the rod 21. 21 is in two sections. The upper section 25 is threaded at its lower end to receivethe stop nut 26 which engages against the upper end of a screw cap 27 threaded upon the section 25 of the rod, and also threaded upon a spring case 28 which is adapted to receive the plunger 29 with which the lower section 30 of the rod 21 is provided. The upper end of the section 30 of the rod 21 passes through the perforation 31 in the lower end of the spring case. A spring 32 is seated between the shoulder 33 with which the spring case 28 is internally provided at itslower end, and the head of the plunger 29. A further spring 34 is seated at its upper end against the cap of the spring case, and at its lowerend against the head of the plunger 29. The springs in the spring cases 28 with which each rod 21 is provided are of suflicient strength to prevent extreme vertical movement of the diaphragmface plate, and consequent extreme vertical movement of .the buffer stems, and allow sufficient yielding to preventexcessive rattling of the parts connected to the diaphragm face plate, either directly or indirectly, when the cars are in motion.
