Be it known that I, DONALD NOBLE, a subject'of the King of Great Britain, residing at Bridgeport, in the countyl of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, 'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop #Motion Mechanism for 4Sewing- Machines, of which the following is a specifi'- c'ation, reference being had therein to thethe actiony of the machine only when form-v` ing an outside stitch, as distinguished from the commonly employed stop-motion mechanisms for arresting the action ofthe machine when the needle is out of the fabric,
regardless of the character of the stitch being formed. f
The present construction ofk stop-motion mechanism is shown and described asapplied to the blind stitch fsewing n iachine.V represented by U. S. patent application Se-A rial No. 660,255, filed lNovember 1114, 1911, D. Noble, and while this particular machine differs somewhat from the vearlier dev1ces,it is believed that sufficient of the details in construction is herein shown to clearly illustrate the application of the presentimprovement.-

1. vIn a sewing ymachine provided with a thread-carrying needle having stitchforming movements ina path intersecting the fabricbeing acted upon and in av path outside` of said fabric, the combination with power-transmitting mechanism for-transmitting power from the supply to the machine, and a stop-motion mechanism for arresting the action of said machine, of means under lthe control of the operator for interrupting said `transmission of power and bringing said stop-motion mechanism into action, and automatically controlled means for preventing the effective action of said stop-motion mechanism except when rthe needle is actuated tov form an outside stitch.

In a sewing machine provided with a thread-carrying needle having stitch-forming movements in a substantially horizontal plane intersecting the fabric being acted upon and in a substantially horizontal plane outside of said fabric, the combination with power-transmitting mechanism for transmitting power from the supply to the machine, and a stop-motion mechanism for arresting the action of said machine, of means under the control of the operator `for interrupting said transmission of power and bringing said stop-motion mechanism into action, and. automatically controlled means for preventing they eective action of said stopmotion mechanism exceptl when the needle is actuated to form an outside stitch.. `In a sewing` machine provided with ai thread-carrying needle having stitch-forming movements in a substantially horizontal plane intersecting the fabric being acted upon and in a substantially horizontal plane outside ofsaid fabric,'the combination with power-transmitting mechanism for transmitting power from the supply to the mav chine, `anda `stopmotion mechanism for arresting the actionof said machine, of means under the control of the operator for interrupting said transmission of power and bringing said stop-motion mechanism into until the operator relcasesher controlof the.` action, and automatically controlled fmeans given plane. y
