DETACHABLE LAMP-SOCKET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON ERLANGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Lamp-Sockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to electric lamp sockets and has special reference to means for detachably connecting such sockets to wires.
In the construction of electric signs and other similar display or lighting devices it is frequently desirable to arrange lights on a pair of permanent insulated wires, the latter being secured to a suitable supporting surface such as a sign board or the like. It is also desirable that provision be made so that an unskilled person may shift the position of these sockets and without making the usual splice between the lead in wires of the sockets and the permanent line wires above mentioned.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel socket arrange ment which shall embody means for making connection electrically between the wires within the insulating covering and said socket. said connection being of such character that it may be made without stripping the insulation from the line wires and being furthermore of such character as to enable the connection to be made at any desired point on the line wires and as quickly removed or broken.
.1 second object of the invention is the provision of a lamp socket with a novel connecting arrangement of the above character which is so arranged that the possibility of accidental disconnection is eliminated.
\Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

In both modifications herein illustrated there is provided a socket 10 of the usual type, it being understood that this socket, in common with the ordinary socket, has two points of contact for the contacts in the base 11 of the lamp 12. These features are old and well known in the art and are not deemed necessary here to be shown. From the two contacts on the socket 10 lead the pins 13 which are provided with sharpened points 14. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 these points are corrugated by simply flexing the wires back and forth as indicated at 15. In the form shown in Fig. 3 these points are likewise corrugated but the corrugations in this instance are made by stamping the metal of the pins so as to produce a series of abrupt shoulders 16 and slanting surfaces 17 which are arranged in staggered relation on opposite sides of the respective pins. The abrupt shoulders face toward the base of the pin so that no undue 0bstruction is afforded to the entry of the pin into a supporting body while resistance to the withdrawal of the pin is greatly increased thus preventing accidental detachment thereof. These plns, when the device is applied, pass through the insulation 18 of the wirin and through the bundle of twisted or pl aited wires 19 and their projecting ends may then be driven into the supporting body or board 20 to not only support the lamp socket rigidly in position but also the line wires. socket may be readily positioned atany point along the wires and may be readily detached therefrom for movement to another point. It will be especially noted that the form shown in Fig. 3 is adapted for use where the chances of detachment are large, such as where the wires are on the under side of a horizontal board or where the board is subjected to vibration.
There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and of the character specified.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In combination with a supporting body and insulated line wires, a lamp provided with a socket having electric connections By this means the attached thereto, said connections having a corrugated portion adapted to engage the line Wires and an extended pointed portion adapted to engage the supporting body, whereby the connections form the sole means for rigidly securing said socket and line wires on the supporting body and the lamp is protected from falling by the corrugations engaging the Wires should the pointed portions be accidentally displaced from the supporting body.
