UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS M. CASE, 0F CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO J. C. HUB, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CARD-TAB STRUCTURE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. CAsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-Tab Structures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in index cards generally, and particularly to those having celluloid tabs.
More specifically the invention relates to an index card comprising a sheet having a tab made up of a central body portion of celluloid containing the legend or character, and binding sheets or plates one 0n each side of the card and tab and amalgamating with the tab and secured to the sheet.
The invention may be further briefly summarized as consisting in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth in the following description, drawings and claims.
Referring tothe drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a card arranged according to my invention; Fig. 2 is a section upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention, I employ a plain card 1 and a tab 2 of celluloid or the like and of substantially the thickness of the card. Upon this tab I refer to place the legend or character, and) to then bind the tab to the card by two layers 3 and 4 of celluloid. In securing the celluloid binders to the tab, -I employ a solvent, such as alco- Specication of Letters Patent.

hol, and subject the parts to pressure in the presence of heat causing an amalgamation or' the celluloid, and causing the celluloid binders to adhere to the paper. I also prefer to extend the tab 2 out with a horizontal portion or portions 5 along the edge of the card, and when the binder strips are secured thereto, there is produced a slotted socket or member for holding the tab tightly in place upon the card.
Having described my invention, I claim: 1. A complete tab structure comprising a main tab body strip of celluloid throughout,
and binder strips of celluloid one on each side of the mam tab body strip, amalgamated therewith and extending beyond the same to form extensions for embracing the card.
2. A complete tab structure comprising a main tab body strip of celluloid throughout, with lateral extensions for extending along the edge of the card, and binder strips of `celluloid one on each side of the main tab body and covering the same with its card edge extensions, said binder strips being amalgamated to the main tab body strip and extending beyond the same to form extensions for embracing the side faces of the card. f,
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses as follows.
FRANCIS, M. CASE.
