OIL-BURNER.

Be it known that we, HARRY V. DuEsACH and WILLIAM O. DRESBACH, citizens of the United States, residing at Joplin, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
Uur invention relates to an improved burner adapted to operate with kerosene oil or the like as a fuel, and has for an important object the provision of such a device whereby the combustion of the fuel is perfeet to a high degree.
The inventionv further aims to provide a burner of the above mentioned character, formed of few and simple parts, which are inexpensive to manufacture and may be quickly and easily assembled and separated.
Other objects and advantagesl of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view through a burner embodying our invention, taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 2, and, Fig. 2 is' a plan view of the same with parts removed.
l'n the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of our invention, the numeral 5 desig natos a main shell or body portion of the burner, having an annular interior combustion chamber 6, as shown. The body-,ortion 5 is provided .with Aan inner air inlet opening 7 and with outer air inlet openings 8, oppositely arranged, whereby air passes into the annular combustion chamber 6 in opposite directions, as indicated by the arrows, for a purpose to be more fully explained. The body portion 5 is provided with -a flange 9, whereby the same may be supported or suspended, as is customary.
The numeral 10 designates a heating plate, which is preferably circular and curved in vertical cross'section` as shown. This heating plate is-supported -in spaced relation from the body 'portion 5 by depending legs 11, preferably cast integral therewith, and provided upon their outer sides with openings or notches 12, to receive the wall or edge of the opening 7, such wall being provided with a corresponding number of openings or notches 13, adapted for regis- Specification of Letters Patent. tration with the openings 12, whereby the legs 11 may be inserted within the opening 7, and subsequently turned whereby they are supported by the edge or wall of 'the opening 7, as is obvious. It is thus seen that simple and reliabler means are provided for detachably securing the heating plate 10 to the body portion 5, allowing the same to be readily separated and assembled.
The heating plate 10 is provided upon its upper surface with spacing lugs 14, which engage and hold a 'cap 15 in spaced relation from the heating plate 10, as shown. The cap 15 is provided with a depending` annular flange 16, spaced from the edge or periphery of the heating plate 10, as shown. In operation, the oil passes through the pipe 18 onto the heating plate 10, and will at first ,flow from the same at the extremity of the flange'16. This oil may be ignited. As the burner begins to operate the, heat from the burning oil is transmitted to the heating' plate' 10, whereby such heating plate vaporizes the `oil travelingoutwardly through the vaporizing chamber 17. This vaporized oil now discharges a't the eXtremyity of-the flange 16 into the approximately central portion of the combustion chamber 6, between and in the presence of the oppositely traveling incoming streams of air.'
