MNICURING DEVIUE.
mis-,eea .i
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I', CHARLES F. Rossn'r iran, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City,`in the county of Wyandotte and State of Kansas, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Manicuring Devices, of which the following is .fr
specification. .y
My invention relates to manicurmg devices, and one object is to provide a simple device of this character whereby the *linger nails canbe quickly trimmed, cleaned, and
a central section df a polishing attachment employed in carrying out the invention. Fig. 5 is a central section of an attachment for cleaning the nails.
lin, carrying out the invention, 1 employ prvided at its rear end with a vscrew-threaded fitting 2, for attachment to an electric or other rotarymotolz rl`he forward end of tube 1 is encompassed by asleeve 3, having a reduced forward threaded end 4, adapted to be screwed into the internally-threaded rear terminal of a tubular handle 5, slightly venlarged at its forward portion 6 to form a convenient hand hold for the operator. The forward end of handle 5, has a circular guide 7 ta-v pering to an edge at its periphery, so that it can be readily inserted beneath the nail to guide the nail trimming tool hereinafter described.
8 designates a through tube 1 and inclosed at its rear end with a fXedly-mounted sleeve 9, which may be attached to the shaft of Aan electric or otherfrotary motor. rllhe forward end of shaft 8 is fiXedly-secured imthe yrear portion of a shaft 10, having an enlarged portion 11, arranged within the enlarged' for portion l1 of shaft 10 is provided at its ends 4with peripheral ball-races 12, ,contactingltwo annular rows' of balls 13A held Specieation of Letters atent.

in place against the ball-races 12 by a ballrace 14 in handle 5, and a bali-race 15 in a cup 16 screwed into the internally-threaded forward end of handle 5. Cep 16 may be adjusted longitudinally of handle 5 to take up any lost motion or wear of the balls 13 and the ball-races. Cup 16 is locked at any polnt of its adjustment by a set-screw 17 threaded into the handle 5 and bearing 'at -its inner end against the periphery lof said cup'.
Shaft 10 ispicvided its forward porltion with an axial counter bore 18 to receive the stub-shaft 19 of a circular file or other abrasive member Q0. Stub-shaft 19 is pro-- vided near its' rear end with a recess 2li-to receive the forward end of a .resilient de-tent 22, securcdatits rear end to shaft 10 by a pin 23.
In order that the recess 21 of stub-shaft 19 may be brought into register with the forward end of detent :22 when stub-shaft. 19 is inserted into bore 18, l. flatten one side of said stub-'shaft'as indicated vat 19a and i also flatten the corresponding side of the bore as indicated at 18A.'
lThe rotary member 20 has a peripheral concave abrasive surface 2li, communicatmg with a peripheral guard 25 at the front side of member 2G. Guard 25 prevents cutting of the hand should the member 20 accidentally come in Contact therewith.
b26 designates a circular polishing member provided with a stub-shaft 27, of the same shape and size as stub-shaft 19, so that it may be inserted in bore 18 and engage the detent Q2, when the rotary file member 20 is removed. Member 26 is provided with a peripheral ring 28, made of rubber or other similar material and covered with a piece of chamois, or other suitable polishing material 29.
35 designates a circular brush member provided with a stub-shaftt'of the same shape and size as the stubshaft 19, to fit into the counter bore 18 and engage the detcnt 22.
lWhen -it is desired to trim the nails, the
device is attached to the motor (not shown)l and ythe enlargednortion of handle 5 is th one hand, while the circularv guide 'i' is inserted beneath one of the nails of the other hand to bring the abrasive periphery or the rotary member 2O into engagement with the exposed edge of thenail,` which latter is then `zz'iniimed to tbe depreferred ferm of my sired shape by passing the member 2O back 'and forth around the exposed edge ef izhe Aneil'.
The file member is then removed and the brush member 35 substituted 'libere for to thoroughly cleanse tbe baile, after which the nails may be polished by substi- ``buiging the rotary polishing member 24E-iler libe rotary brush member While il bave shown and described bhe reserve the righe to maire such changes as properly fall within the spirib and scope or the appended claims.
Having thus described my inveiibion what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Pai;- ent, is: v
l. A device of the .consisting of a flexible coupled at one end Character described, sbafb adapted ro be to a meiera a rotary 'of' said shaft, a guide iii @lese proximity to the side'ef the ro'cary abrasive boel, said invention, l of course,
iiiaeer guide having its side remote from the rotary tool beveled and intersecting the edge adjacent said abrasive vtool forming an edge at the periphery of the guide, a handle in tegral with seid guide, anda flexible tube iiielesing the shaft and carrying said 11andle ai: one end.
2. in a device of the character described,
