SIDNEY B. CAHN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.-
COMBINATION FORM AND HANGER FOR COATS, 8w.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 27, 1914.
Application filed May 5, 1913. Serial No. 765,555.
To all whom it ma 1 concern,
Be it known that I, SIDNEY B. CAHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Imrovement in Combination Forms and dangers for Coats, &c., of which the followin is a specification.
his invention relates particularly to a device adapted to serve as a form or hanger for coats, or the like, such device being particularly useful in preserving the form of a coat when it is boxed or packed for delivery or transportation.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple device for the purpose indicated which can be manufactured at very small cost and which is capable of serving a highly useful purpose in packing coats or other such like articles of wearing apparel.
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a blank. cut from card-board or other somewhat stifl but flexible material, and capable of being folded or curved toproduce the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3; Fig. 2 a front view of the device after the collar and shoulder forming wings have been curved and secured in ilace: and Fig. 3, a plan view of the device in the form shown in Fig. :2.
In the form illustrated. the device comprises a body-portion l, a neck-portion 2, and shoulder-forming wings 3.
The neck-forming portion 2 is joined to the upper portion of the body 1 by a rela tively narrow connecting-part 4; and the wing-portions 2 of, the collar part 2 are separated from the shoulder-iorming wings 3 by recesses 5. Thewings 2 are provided at their extremities with locking-tongues or fastening-devices 2" adapted to interlock with a transverse slot 6 disposed near the central portion of the body 1. The shoulder-forming wings 3 have curved'upper edges 3 and are equipped at their upper outer corner portionswith locking-tongues or fastening-devices 3 adapted to interlock with obliquely-disposed slots 7 in the bodyportion near the lower corners thereof. The collar-portion 2 is provided centrally with an eyelet 8 adapted to serve as a means for hanging the form up.
To convert the blank into the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the wings 2" of the collarportion are curved forwardly and the locking-tongues 2" are caused to interlock with the slot 6; and the shoulder-forming wings 3 are curved inwardly and downwardly, and the locking tongues 3 are caused to interlock with the oblique slots 7. The slots are so disposed that when the wings are thus curved and secured, they are caused to bow forwardly, thus producing the hollow neckportion and the hollow shoulder-portions indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. Thus, a considerable body is given to the device at the neck and shoulder portions, the curvature being suitable to conform to the neck and shoulder portions of a coat. in use, the form is slipped into the coat, and the coat is buttoned about it, the sleeves of the coat being folded across the bodyportion of the coat. The coat, with the form in it, may the be placed in a box, ready for delivery. Vhen the coat is removed from the box, the form may be used as a hanger, in which capacity it serves as a substitute for the wooden or wire hangers hieh are commonly employed for such purpose.
The device described may be manufactured at such small cost as to enable it to be given to dustomers by tailors, clothiers, etc.
The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness oi understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom.
What I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A coat-form comprising a body-portion equipped with a neck-forming part and shoulder-forming parts separated by recesses, the neck-forming part having wings equipped with locking-tongues, and the shoulder-forming parts having their outer upper corners equippeci with lookingtongues of the shoulder-forming wings betongueathe body portion being provided at ing interlocked with said oblique slots.
some distance below the neck-portion with a v 1 r transverse slot and being provided near the SIDX L} (Lurk 5 lower Corners wit-h oblique slots, the locking In the presence of tongues of the collar-wings beinginterlocked- F. C. R-Avex's,
with said first-nanmd slot, and the locking- FRANK BAGLEY.
