Be it known that I, ELLIS E. FLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Celeste, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Tm provements in Churns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to churns and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and. claimed. I v
The present invention is an improvement over the device shown in my prior Patent Number 944,129 granted Dec. 21, 1909. In the said prior structure I employed two dashers one of which was mounted upon a rod which was located within a tube.. This tube and rod passed through the top of. the
churn and during the churning operation the cream wouldsplash up into the tube and rust. Consequently the parts of the structure were hard to keep clean.
In the present structural arrangement I employ spaced rods for supporting the dashers and these rods pass through the top of the churn body by reason of the spaces between the rods the structure is easily cleaned and consequently a more sanitary churn structure is provided.
In the accompanying drawing:Figure 1 is a side elevation of the churn with parts in section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation viewing the churn from a point at a right angle to the view as shown in Fig. 1. The other figures are detailed views of the several features of the churn.
The churn comprises a frame 1 upon which is mounted a body 2 having a detachable top 3. Brackets 4 are mounted upon the top of the frame 1 and a shaft 5 is journaled for rotation in the said brackets. Any suitable means may be provided for rotating the shaft 5. A beveled gear wheel 6 is fixed to the inner end of the shaft 5 and meshes with a beveled gear wheel 7 which is fixed to the upper end of a shaft 8 journaled in the upper portion of the frame. The lower portion of the beveled gear wheel 6 meshes with a beveled gearwheel 9 which is mounted upon a sleeve 10 and the said sleeve receives the intermediate portion of the shaft 8. Arms 11 are adjustably secured to the sleeve 10 by means of a set screw 12 and rods 18 depend from the end portions of the said arms 11. An outer dasher 14 is carried'at the lower ends of the rods 13 and the rods 1 3.pass through the top 3 while the dasher 14 is located in the body 2.- The upper portions means of a cross bar 15 which is spaced from the lowerend of the sleeve 10. Arod 16 1s ournaled at its" upper end in the cross bar 15 and passes down through the inter v the rods 13 and restsupon the upper sur face of the cross bar 15. The said head 18 is provided with spaced lugs 19 which receive between them a pin 20 carried at the lowerend of the shaft'8. The rods 13 and 16 are spaced from each other and therefore the said rods may be readily cleaned and the structure may be'kept free from the accumulation of filth. Therefore it will be seen that as the shaft5 is rotated the beveled gear wheel 6 will rotate the beveled gear wheels 7 .and 9 in opposite directions and the shaft 8 which is fixed with relation to the beveled gear wheel 7 will rotate the rod 16 in one direction while the beveled gear wheel 9 and sleeve 10 together with the arms 11 will rotate the rods 13 in an opposite direction. Thus the dashers are caused to turn in opposite directions and during the turning operation any milk that will splash up toward the top 3 of the churn will not lodge between the rods 13 and 16.
By reason of the fact that the arms 11 are adjustably connected with the sleeve 10 the dashers 14 and 17 may be positioned in the body-2 at a desired distance from the lower surface of the top 3. The lugs 19 are sufficiently long to permit the pins 20 to be adjusted vertically therebetween for a sufficient distance to permit the dasher 17 to follow the dasher 14 as the latter dasher is adjusted in the body as above indicated.
Having described the invention what is claimed is i v f l 1. A churn comprising a frame, a body mounted thereon and having a top, a sleeve journaled in the frame, a shaft journaled in the sleeve, means for rotating'the sleeve and shaft in opposite directions, arms carried by the sleeve, spaced rods depending from the arms, a dasher carried by the said rods, an: otherrod spaced from the first mentioned of therods 13 are connected together by v rods and operatively connected with the shaft and a dasher carried by the last men tioned rods.
2. A churn comprising a frame, a sleeve journaled in the frame, a shaft journaled in the sleeve, means for rotating the sleeve and shaft in opposite directions, arms carried by the sleeve, rods depending from the arms, a dasher carried by the said rods, a cross bar connecting the rods together, another rod journaled in the said cross bar and having a head which rests upon the cross bar, a dasher carried by the last mentioned rod and means operatively connecting the last mentioned rod with the said shaft.

A churn comprising a frame, a sleeve journaled in the frame, a shaft ournaled in the sleeve, means for rotating the sleeve and shaft in opposite directions, arms adjustably mounted upon the sleeve, rods depending from the arms, a dasher carried by the rods, a cross bar connecting said rods, together, another rod journaled in the cross bar and carrying at its lower end a dasher, a head fixed to the last mentioned rod and resting upon the cross bar and provided with upstanding lugs and a pin carried by the shaft and engaging between the lugs.
