T all whom it may conccrnb Be it known that I, DANIEL BgJAooBs, a citizen of the United States, and a `resident of the city of New York, borough of Man'- hattan, in the county" and, State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clip,of which the following is a full, clear, 1
`use is made of a clip `bandopen at one side and adapted to `be passed around the swin `gletree or a like device, the open'sides of the clipband terminatingin outwardly-ekn tending flanges, of which one has a return bend to form a hook for the reception of the trace holder or supporting link, and a bolt passing through the flanges 1n the` rear of the trace holder or ring.
A practical embodiment `of the invention is representedin the accompanying .drawings forming a part ofthis specification, 1n which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective'vlew of the clip f as applied to a swingletree; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4: is an enlarged sectional side elevation lof thestrap or traceholder clip, the section being on the line lL-410i Figi; Fig. 5 is a cross section of the same on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4:; and Fig. 6 is across section of one end of a metallic swingletree provided with the improved trace holderclip.
The wooden swingletree `illustrated, 1 in Fig. l is provided at the middle witha supporting clip B and near each end with a trace holder clip C. Thesupporting clip B consists essentially of a clipband B passed around the swingletree A and terminating in outwardly-extending flanges B2, B3, of
which'the bottom flange B3 is provided with a return bend forming a hook B` for en- Speccation of Letters Patent.

gagement by an `attaching ring `orlink `D adapted to engage the doubletree clip. A bolt E extends verticallythrough the flange B2 andthe free end ofthe `hook B* to screw f into a threaded boss B5 arranged onthe bottom tlangeBf; The bolt E passes in the rear of the ring or link D so as to securely hold the latter inposition in the hook B4 but to allow free u and down swinging of "the said link or ring. It will be noticed that on screwing the boltl Erin place the clip band B is rmlyclamped 1n position `on the swingletree A and at the same time the bolt E acts as aretainer for the link or ring D to hold the latter in position on the hook Bt. lV hen thelbolt Eis removed thehook or link B can be conveniently detached from the hook B4 and `the band `B can be readily de- 1 sition on the swingletree `A then the rib Bs` snugly fitsinto the groove A thus holding the clip against lateral displacement on the swingletree A. i
Each of the end clips C consists of a clip band C tting into an annular groove A formed in the swingletree A near the cor- 1` responding end thereof, and the said clip `band C terminates in `outwardly-extending flanges C2, C3, of which thebottom flange C is provided withan integral return bent member forming a hook C4 for engagement` bythe ringofthe trace or other part to be attached to the clip 1C. A boltF passes through thelange C2 `and screwsinto a1 threaded boss C5 formed on the bottom flange C3 so that the band C" is rmly .1 i clamped in place inthe groove A2 of the swingletree A. It will be noticed that reference to Fig.` 4 the boltF does not pass through the hook C4 as above describedfin referenceto the clip B but extends a dis-` 1 tance. in therear of thehook C4L so asto,` permit of `conveniently hooking the trace ring in position on the hook C4. By fitting the clip band C into the` recess A2` the clip is held againstlateral movement, and the clip can be readily removed from the swingletree by unscrewng the bolt F to allow of disengaging the clip ,band from the groove.
ln case the swingletree is of metal, as shown in F ig. 6 for instance, use is made of a tubular swingletree A3 having each outer end provided with a return bent exterior flange A4 against which abuts the clip band C Aoi the clip C, the clip band being held against lateral move-ment by a bolt H passing through the band and through the wall of the tubular swingletree A3; otherwise the clip C is of the construction shown in Figs. l, 4 and 5.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the clips can be readily placed in position without the aid of a skilled mechanic, and in case any one of the parts is worn out and needs replacement then the clip can be readily removed for the purpose mentioned.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure b-y Letters Patent:
l. `A clip, comprising a band adapted to be passed around a swingletree, doubletree vor like device, the band terminating at one side in outwardly-extending flanges, of
` which one has a return bent portion to form a hook, a ring held in the said hook, and a bolt engaging the said flanges andthe said hook, the bolt rextending inthe rear of the ring to lock-the latter'in 2. The combination with a swingletree, doubletree or like device having a peripheral groove, of a clip band surrounding the said device and having an inwardly-extending integral rib engaging thev said groove to hold the band against lateral movement, the band terminating at one side in outwardly extending flanges, vof which one is provided with a return bend `to form a hook for the reception of a ring, and a bolt engaging the said flanges to hold the band clampingly in position on the said device.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a whii'lletree clip, consisting of a band-like j clip having approximately parallel anges of unequal lengthth'e longer flange being bent inwardly to form a hook, thev flanges and hook having registering openings, and
I a bolt passing through the openings of the langes and hook.
In vtestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two `subscribing witnesses. f
