of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Razor-Blade Sharp.
carry at their lower ends a razor holding or gripping clamp in convenient position for the upwardly-disposed razor edge whose opposite sides are adapted to be alternately engaged by said rollers in the sharpening process, and a strap or strip of cotton-duck or cadet webbing or the like used'in the rockerframe to pass over said rollers in frictionalcontact therewith and whereby the rollers are each rotated in reverse directions for proper contact with the edge of the blade at both sides thereof.-

7 indicateseach one of a pair of corresponding horizontal side-members mounted on the transverse pin 5 and forming a rocker-frame and carrying a pair of rollers 8 and 9 that are, in turn, mounted on transverse pins 10 and 11 that are horizontallye alined in the said side-members 7 and com posed of woodencores with thin leather or buff covers 12 that are especially adapted to receive and hold the honing and stropping material such asfcrocus, rouge or similar paste ordinarily used in sharpening and polishing metals. The wooden core of each roller has a central lining or bush 13 throughwhich the pins 10 and 11 pass and provide against undue wear, as well as to maintain a uniform distance between the faces of the rollers for the better operation of the device on the razor-blades to be sharpened.
A razor-blade carrier-clamp is adjustably and detachably mounted on the lower transverse bar or ligament 3 of the vertical arms .1 that form a suspension-frame for the roller carrying and rocker frame. This razorclamp is preferably composed of a main or outerpair of open spring gripping jaws 141 and an inner pair of spring gripplng-jaws 15, the inner coupled end of the jaws 1 1 being, shaped to conform to and embrace a broadbacked blade and the, outer ends'being' bent and tapered or, flared inwardly to embrace the outer thin portion or edg'e'fof the blade and, also, to compress the flat members of the inner jaws 15 on a thin blade 15 that is held or grippedtherein, the latter as shown in Fig. 3. end of the main jaws 14: is also adapted to tightly embrace the bulged sides of the inner end of the jaws or clamp 15, as best seen in both Figs. 3 and 5. It is obvious that any of the various shapes of razor-blades in'use are adapted to be held between the two clamp- members 14 and 15, the outer one 15 being adapted to be used alone or both clamps 14 and 15 being adapted to be used together as circumstances or conditions may require.
A coupling-bolt 16 is provided for the two clamp-members l4 and 15 and a thumbscrew 17 used at one end to engagethe upwardly-notched portion 4.0f the transverse as best seen in Fig. 3, the intermediate por-' tion of the strap engaging under the friction-roller 6 on the transverse pin 5, to re duce wear and facilitate the reciprocal movements of the strap and to bring the strap.

the end to the left in Fig. 3 having been drawn downward by the operator and rocking the roller carrying frame so that the roller 8 is in contact with one edge of the razor-blade during the passage of the strap in a direction to the left in said view, as indicated by the adjacent arrow, and the rollers being always actuated or rotated away from the edge of the blade in the .sharpening process.
The roller frame can be readily rocked on the pin or shaft 5- to suit the position of the manipulating strap or web 18 at either end of its stroke, or the position of the 11pwardly-disposed edge of the razor-blade in the operation of sharpening the latter on both sides of its cutting edge for the desired shaving condition.
I claim 1 1. In a razor sharpening device, a pair of suspension-arms havingacross-bar, a rockerframe mounted in said arms, a pair of rollers having blade sharpening .and smoothing surfaces and mounted 'to rotate in said rocker-frame, a strap or strip of webbing or the like adapted to frictionally-engage said crossbar in the suspension-arms and,
sharpening-paste thereon and mounted on said transverse pins between the side-members, a single bar or pin extending transversely across the space between the sidemembers parallel to said pair of transverse bars or pins and slightly below the common level of the upper peripheries of the pair of rollers and with its opposite ends extended somewhat beyond the outer faces of the said side-members, a suspension-frame composed of a pair of vertical arms having an upper transverse pivotal bail or swivel-bar and a lower transverse connecting-ligament and adapted to pivotally-support between them the roller-containing side-members on the said single transverse bar or pin whose outer extended ends are duly headed or riveted, a razor-blade holding-clamp adjustably and detachably mounted on the said lower connecting-ligament of the suspension-frame and adapted to present the edge of the blade to the sharpening surfaces of the rollers, and a strap or short strip of webbing or the like passing under the said single transverse bar or pin and over the peripheral surfaces of the two rollers to contact back and forth with the latter and rotate them in reverse directions for alternate engagement with both sides of the sharp edge of the razor blade.
3. A razor-blade sharpener comprising a pair of vertical arms or bars having a trans verse swinging or suspending bail to connect their upper ends and a notched horizontal bar or ligament to connect their lower ends, a transverse pin carrying a friction-roller and having its opposite ends in engagement with the said vertical arms intermediate their said upper and lower ends, a pair of corresponding horizontal side-members having centrally-alined holes therein that are adapted to engage said transverse pin and provide for a rocking-movement of the said side-members, a pair of buff-covered rollers surfaced with a sharpening-paste. and mounted on a pair of horizontally-alined transverse pins in said side-members, a razor-blade carrier-clamp adjustably and detachably mounted on the lower notched ligament of the vertical arms and provided with two sets of gripping-jaws one of which sets is removable from the other, and a reciprocally movable or sliding strap or strip of edge of the blade and then against the other Webbing or the like passing under and in side of said edge in the process of putting contact with the said friction-roller and, said edge in condition for use.
