Be it'known that I, LEANDER D. lVI-IEAT- LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing is entirely dispensed with, yet the said tag can be conveniently and quickly engaged on a button on a garment so that the latter can be readily identified.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a tag wherein the button on a garment or other article can be easily engaged in the eye of the tag so as to secure the same thereon without the liability of tearing the said tag or pulling the button from the garment or article.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a tag of this character which is simple in construction, strong, durable, re-
liable and efficient in its purpose, and also inexpensive in manufacture.
lVlth these and other ob ects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully descr1bed,.1llustrated in the accompanying drawing and 1 muted out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings: Figure 1, is a plan view of a tag constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2, is a vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3, is a longitu dinal section view of the tag when applied to a button on a garment. Fig. 4, is a fragmentary perspective view of the tag with the eye open for receiving the button.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 9, 1912.
Patented Sept. 22, 1914. Serial No. 724.836.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the tag comprises a blank 5 preferably constructed. from stiff paste board, the same being of the desired thickness, although the blank may be made from any other suitable material if desired and is of oblong shape,
it being understood of course that the blank should have a certain amount of flexibility, so as to assure wear and durability. The blank 5 near one end is formed with a substantially V-shaped slot 6, to provide a button hole or eye, the branches of the slot being outwardly curved as at 7, so as to allow the free insertion of a button therein when it is attached to a garment or article to be marked or identified by said tag. The medial portion of the slot 6 communicates with a circular opening or aperture 8, which is designed to accommodate the thread con necting the button to the garment or article after the said button has been fully inserted through the said slot for the securing of the tag thereon.
What is claimed is A tag provided with an opening comprising a reduced neck intermediate the ends with diverging lines upon one side of the neck and a line defining the major arc of a circle upon the opposite side of the neck and an integral tongue filling the neck and the space between the diverging lines and provided with an extremity substantially completing the circle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
