Application mea November?, isis! serial No. 799,691.
To all whom if may concern Be it known that I, MoR'roN MAIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New .'York, have invented a new and Improved Dental Casting- Machine, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to dental casting machines, and has reference more particularly to the centrifugal type in which the molten material is forced into the mold by centrifugal force.
The object thereof is to provide a simple, inexpensive and convenient device whereby a. perfect casting canibe obtained.
1 obtain the above object by providing a bucket adapted to receive a mold carrier and normally suspended in a vertical plane from a substantially horizontal arm provided with means whereby it can be rotated in a substantially horizontal plane, the centrifugal force generated by rotation tending to force the bucket from its normal vertical plane to a horizontal plane and whereby the molten metal in thevmold carrier is forced into the shape of the mold.
The invention consists' of the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and fully set forth in the claim;
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in 'which like charactersI indicatel corresponding parts in all the views, and
. in which:
Figure, 1 is a vertical, longitudinal section of an embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 a section on line 2-2, Fig. 1.
' Referring tothe drawings, 3 represents a bucket of any suitable material provided interiorly with reinforcing ribs 4, forming spacers therein fora mold carrier 5, preferably formed of a piece oftube, to receive therein the material 6 formingf the mold proper. Two of the opposite ribs f1 are eX- tended/laterally, as shown at 7 with their extremities turned into a'plane parallel to the axis of the bucket. f by any suitable y of the extensions erably provided with a rigidly secured central head 9 having a linkll.
Pivotally` secured meahs to the yextremities 7 is a bail 8, which is pref- An arm 11 having a snap hook 12 at one 4 end, which is vadapted to receivethe link 10 ot the bail, has its opposite end rigidly cured to a substantially vertical shaft 13. The said shaft 13 bears in an extension 14 of a casing 15. The portion of the shaft 13 within the casing 15 is provided with a pinion 16 secured rigidly. onrsaid shaft and meshing with a gear 17 also positioned in the casing 15 and carried by a shaft 18 bearing in the cover 19 of the casing 15 and l")rojecting through said cover. '1`he pro- ]ecting end of the shaft 18 is engaged by a crank20 whereby said shaft can be rotated and therewith shaft 18, gear 17 secured to said shaft, pinion 16 meshing with said gear, shaft 13 rigid with the pinion and the arm 11 carried by saidshaft 13, and therewith the bucket 3. The casing 15 is prefer ably mounted on a bar 21, whereby the said casing can be secured to any suitable place. Said bar 21 also formsa journal for the lower end of the shaft 18, so as to form a better support for the gear 17. A counterweight 24 -is secured to the shaft 13 whereby the revolving parts are balanced. The arm 11, as shown in Fig. 1, is bent slightly downward so as to permit the bail j S to pass freely under the bar 21 when the The reason for this is to permit the bucket' which supports the mold carrier to remain in a substantially vertical position .independent of the bail. has a tendency to remain iny a substantially vertical position not only on the snap hook rIhat is, the bucket' liti@ 12 but also on the axis of its suspension on the bail. bilitynof This provision reduces the possisplashing molten metal out of the funnel portion 22 formed-in the material 6 of the mold proper wherein the molten material is poured before the device is 'set in rotation. ."And, as it can :be seen, as long as the device does not acquire'its maximum speed, the bucket will remain substantially vertical, or will be inclined very little, and
with the increase in speed the said bucket will be moved to a horizontal plane, or substantially so, and the metalin the funnel narne to this specification stantially horizontal arm secured to said shaft; andmeansatA the free end Vof said arm adapted to secure said bail but leaving,
to it the freedom to swing on said arm, said bail being so positioned on said arm that the swinging axis of saidv bucket isvsubstantially perpendicular to the axis of said shaft. y
lIn testimony whereof I have. signed my Witnesses.
