Patented Sept. 8,
This invention relates to ''conveyers`for unloading cotton" or the like'. 'f 4One object isto provide a pneumatic 'oonveyer particularlyladapted to readily, con-y venie'ntliyfand expeditiously take cotton from CII a vehicle, platform or o therpla'c'e and carry or convey'. the same through the conveyer and deposit it on a-gi' stand or'ptherplace for ginning Another 0% v ject f'resides fin fthe provision of an vadjustable extension for the suction pipe of a pneumatic conveyer tubewith means associated therewith so thatthe :extension may betadjusted and firmly held in adjusted posit'inf, according to l'the level ofv the cot-ton on the bodyof thei'vehicle plat.
' 15a of the .arms 15 are preferably 'screw threaded so that screw threaded nuts 16 may form or the likel l.'
With lthe aboie' land other objectsl view,
the present invention consistsin theI combif nation'and arrangement ofparts hereinafter more fully described, illustratedin theac-t companying draw'ing's'l'and particularly lpointedfout inthe appended claims, it being understood thatlchangesmay be made in the form, proportion,' sfi'ze` 'andminor details Without departingffromfthe ,spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the. in-
vention.
In the drawings Figurelis a fragmentary view of agin'mill'iplatform o1-place- Referring now more particularly to thev accompanying drawings, the reference character 10 indicates a gin mill housing into or through which may extend the usual suction or conveyer tube 11 providedwith a downwardly extending sleeve 12 which may be permanently secured to the elbow 13 or adjustably telescope therewith, its lower end being preferably beaded as illustrated.
Adapted to telescope with the downwardly extending portion or sleevel2. of
Cotton or the like, of which the fol-- theleonveyeror suction tube 11 .isa telescoping sleeve 14 which is adapted to telescope with the aforesaid sleeve 12 andwhich at'its outer end is preferably beaded as shown.
Arms'lare secured to the outer endof I Application filed February 9, 1914. Serial No. 817,533.
the telescopin'g sleeve 14.'n These arms 15 are preferably defiected inwardly attheir upper and lower endsas at 15 and 15'", respec-' tively, with the deflected inner ends 15h preferably firmly secured at their lower lends in l'any suitable manner to the outer 'end of the telescoping sleeve 14. By virtue of deflecting the upper 'ends of the arms 15 inwardly upper vendswith shoulders 15for a purpose presently explained.
f The defiection of'vthe opposite ends of the arms 15, asstated, results in the intermedi'- ate portions of the arms 15 being 'spaced 'from the telescoping extension 14 and sleeve 12 'to-such an extent as to provide handles for the manipulation ofthe telescoping.
sleeve-14', if desired. The upper ends of the deflected portions be-detachably secured thereto and these nuts are preferably vprovided with eyes'17 adapt ed to receive one end of the cables 17 which operate over pulleysor sleeves 1 8 mounted in'suita'ble' hangers 19 secured in any suitable manner to the-bra'ket or'beam 20 projecting from the housingl 10. The opposite ends of these' cables 1 are' connected t0 weights 21 by virtue of which there is'fa normal tendency' of the 'teles'coping exten# sion` 14 being drawn inwardly with relation 'to the sleeve 12. f V" To hold the telescoping extension 14 in 'adjusted positions against the/action of the weights 21 there is preferably provided a -sitely disposed eyes 27 adapted to slide on Athe deflected portions'15a-vof the 'arms 15.
' The nuts 16 are of course removed-from the f ends of the deflected portions 15a of the outer end of the sleeve 12 and the band 21,
it will be noted, adapted to be clamped to the sleeve 12 and when 'clamped thereto it holds the telcscoping section le in various adjusted positions according to the position which is necessary or desired to support or suspend the saine. fthe nut 26 should loosen the weights 2 1 would tend to lift the telescoping section 14 inwardly with relation to the sleeve 12. Therefore, in the event of accidental loosening of the nut 26, the sleeve 14 will be drawn inwardly and not permitted to drop away from the sleeve 12. 1f it be desired to adjust the sleeve 12 with relation to the sleeve 14 itis simply necessary to loosen the nut 26 when the handle portions of the arms 15 may be grasped and the sleeve 14 be adjusted against the action of the weights 21 and when adjusted to proper position, the proper turning of the vnut 26 will hold the telescoping sleeve in the desired position with relation to the sleeve 12.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination of a suction tube of a ginmill or the like including a downwardly directed portion, ateleseoping sleeve connected with the downwardly extending portion of said tube, arms connected with the telescoping sleeve adjacent the outer end of the latter and extending upwardly adjacent rest on said shoulders, means to adjustably clamp the bandv on the first-named sleeve V[and thereby hold the extension sleeve inadjustable relation to the first-named sleeve,
and means todraw the sleeve inwardly with @intime relation to the downwardly directed portion of the tube upon loosening of said fastening i means of the band.
2. rlChe combination of a suction tube of a gin mill or the like, including an elbow, a telescoping sleeve connected with the elbow of said sleeve, an extension sleeve telescopinar with the aforesaid sleeve, arms connected with the extension sleeve adjacent the outer end of the latter and extending upwardly adjacent the first named sleeve and at their upper ends deflected inwardly toward the rst named sleeve to'provide shoulders, a band provided with eyes so that the band may slide longitudinally on the detlected portions of said arms and rest on said shoulders, means to adjustably clamp theband on said first-named sleeve and thereby hold the extension sleeve in adjustable re# lation to the first-named sleeve, and vmeans connected to said deflected portions of said arms to draw the supplemental sleeve in wardly with relation to the first named sleeve upon loosening of the fastening means.
3. The combination of a suction tube of a gin mill having a downwardly directed sleeve, a telescoping sleeve ei'rtension connected with the aforesaid sleeve, a plurality of arms connected to the extension sleeve and having shoulders at their inner ends, a band embracing said first-mentioned sleeve and having eyes in which said arms above their shoulders are adapted to slide, said eyes forming shoulders adapted to coperate with the shoulders of the arms, means for fasteningr the band in fixed position on the first mentioned sleeve, andmeans connected to said arms to draw the supplemental sleeve inwardly with relation to the first-named sleeve upon loosening of the fastening means. c
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
