An air brake structure is illustrated coni` prising an auxiliary reservoir 1 and a-brake cylinder' 2. In the brake cylinder 2 a piston is indicatedhavingl a piston rod 4, which lis'designed for connection withcertain brakev rods or,levers,vnot shown. A spring 5 norl mally acts to retain the vpiston 8 in a retracted position. A pipe 6leads to the car traini line and lwill `be providedwith the` triple yvalve not herein shown. n

It is Well known that the reservoirl is connectedto the train line by ,a triple valve and that when it is desired to yset the brakes, the train line is opened to latmosphere With-A the result that the triple valve is operated, for passage `of air from kthe auxiliary res-g4 ervoir 1 into ,the brake cylinder to-set 'thet brake shoes. rIf the cars come .oil from the, train, the only Way to release the brakes is to operate the bleed valve. In many constructions it is necessary for the train menl to hold the bleed valve open, `so yas to exl haust kthe auxiliary reservoir Aand this is not only hazardous by reason of the `fact that it involves the frailty of a human element, but it also involves a Waste of time and often includes an element of danger.
In the y present construction, the bleed valve will remain open, after once being opened, until theairis. exhausted, and then 'it will automatically close, and When v.it isl fclosed, it will be subject to air pressure from the reservoir 1 in a manner to securely :maintain it in a closed position, thereby avoiding leakage which now results when ythe valve *is notclosed, subsequent to bleed* ing 'the system.
