It is from this rock shaft that the power is taken to move the means which ejectvthe slug from the mold and cause its delivery into the upper end oi the chute. Thiscam engages with the arm 11 during the latervpart of the single revolution of the shaft l, and thereby rocks this shaft in opposition to a spring 12 which moves it in the op osite direction when the cam will permit. in arm 13 is fixed to and projects down from this rock shaft. A link 14 connects this arm with one arm of a bell crank lever 15. The other arm of the bell crank leveris connected by a link 16 with the lever 88. 'Wli'en therefore the shaft 4 is nearing the end of its single revolution it will rock the'rock shaft 10, and thereby, through the described train of mechanism will move the lever 88 forward out of'engagement with the downwardly extended pin 89. This lever will occupy this position when the slug is delivered into the upper The shaft end of the chute and when it falls down the the cam 17 allows the rockshaft 10 to be rocked in the contrary direction by the spring 12, and this, through the described mechanism, causes lever 88 to so swing as to push the impact piece baclr into the alinement with the front wall of the galley. Of course, the slug is carried with it so that the front end thereof is alined with the front end of the other slugs in the galley. The slug may now be moved along the galley together with other slugs in the galley by a galley packer P of any suitable construction, or by hand, if desired. When the parts are in this position the mechanism comes to rest and leaves them there.
The packer as shown is a plate P which is secured to the upper end of a bent arm p which is fixed to a rock shaft,-the parts being so constructed and arranged that the plate P comes to rest in a position to the left of the impact block, where it forms the left wall of the galley. As above stated, after the impact block has been restored to its normal position, carryin the slug rearward with it, the galley pac 'er is swung to the right, with the result of moving said slug over against the column of slugs, and then moving the entire column to right a short distance.
' Having described my invention, 1 claim:
1. In a line casting mach me, the combination of an inclined chute, adapted to receive a type slug into its upper end, a galley arranged to receive slugs discharged irom the t J: I A! -v lower end On. said cnute, a iorwardly inevunwardl pact block secured to said slide ELL ea arranged to receive onto its floor slugs discharged from the lower delivery end of said chute,-said galley having an upwardly extended front wall, with a forwardl slidable impact block arranged opposite t a discharge end of said chute and normally occupyin a position where it forms a part of the rent wall of the galley, and means, which are disengaged from said impact block when the same is struck and moved forward by a slug delivered into the galley from said chute, for moving said impact block rearward to restore it to its normal position.
3. In a line casting machine, the combination of an inclined chute adapted to receive into its upper end a type slug, and a galley arranged to receive onto its floor slugs discharged from the lower delivery and of said. chute,-said galley having an upwardly extended front wall, with an unrestrained forwardly movable slide having an upward projecting impact block fixed thereto and normally occupying a position in front of the delivery end of the chute and in alinement with the front wall of the galley, a device which normally holds said impact block in the normal position stated, means for moving said device forward-to free the impact block from restraint, and means for moving said device rearward to restore said impact block to its normal position after it has been displaced by the impact from a slug discharged into the galley from said chute.
4. In a line casting machine, the combination of an inclined chute adapted to receive into its upper end a type slug, and a galley arranged to receive onto its floor slugs discharged. from the lower delivery end of said chute,-said galley having an upwardly extended front wall, with anunrestrained forwardly movable slide havin an upward projecting impact block fi'x thereto and normally occupging a position in front-of the del very en 0, the chute and in aline: ment with the treat-wan of the'galley, a downwardly projecting shoulder on said slide, a swinging arm projecting in irontof said shoulder, means loy'which to move said forward to said slide 'rethe straint, and to Tao ward, whereby it will, by engaging the shoulder on' said slide restore the impact block to its normal position...
5. in a line casting machine, the combination of an inclined chute adapted to receive into its upper end a type slug, and a galley arranged to receive onto its iloor slugs discharged from the lower delivery end of said chute,'-said galley having an upwardly extended front wall, with an unrestrained for wardly movable slide having an upward projecting impact block fixed thereto and 4 normally occupying a position in front of the delivery end of the chute and in alinement with the front wall of the galley, a downwardly projecting shoulder on said slide, a swinging arm projecting in front of saidshoulder, a rotatable shaft carrying a cam, means operated by said cam for swinging said arm forward to free said slide from restraint so as to leave it free to move unrestrainedly forward when struck by a slug delivered onto the floor of the gal ey from said chute, and for subsequently swinging said arm rearward to restore said impact block to its normal position.
