new and useful Improvements in Recess- .lioizeaof which the following is a speciiication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to recess-boxes primarily-adapted to inclose the nipples, or service outlet connections, for vacuum cleaning plants and similar apparatus.
It is quite desirable that the service outlets, or nipples, for vacuum cleaning plants should not project into an apartment or room, so recess-boxes are used in which the service outlets are located. These recessbozres are usually provided with covers so as to conceal the service outlets except when the covers are opened or removed for connectlt is desirable that the covers for the cess-boxcsbe hinged thereto and, preferably,
the cover is hinged to afinished or ornamental cover-plate which is secured to the recess-box after the plastering has been co1npleted and while the finishing is being done. As the recess-boxes may be placed in various positions in Walls, floors and ceilings close to doors, radiators, etc, the cover-plate to which the cover is hinged should be made so that it can be secured to the recess-box in any position. Such a construction enables a factory standard to be established which will meet the of every installation and thereby obviate the necessity of special constructions for certain installations.
Referring to the drawings which accompany this specification and form a part thereof, on which drawings the same reference characters are used to designate the same elements wherever they may appear in each of the several views, and which drawings disclose embodiments of this inven tion, Figure l is an elevation of a coverplate and cover, show part of the recess-box; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the recess-box, cover-plate and cover; Fig. 3 is anelevation of part of a stand-pipe and an unfinished wall, parts being shown in section, illustratin the method of installin the recess in n 1 boxes, lug. 4 is an elevation s1n11lar to F 1g.

lrteferring specifically to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates astand pipe for a vacuum cleaning plant secured to a joist 2 by straps 3 and 4:. A T-coupling is interposed in the stand pipe at the point where the service outlet is to be located and into thcbranch 5 of the T apipe 6 is screwed which is long enough so that the plasterers can plaster behind. the recess-box 7 which is hung on said pipefi, as clearly shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings. A cap 8 is screwed on the end of pipe etc prevent plaster and dirt being introduced into stand pipel. .1 l
The numeral 9 designates the lathe and 10 the plaster. When the plastering is being done the recess-box 7 is slid back into place on pipe 6 and secured in position by plaster or plaster of Paris, with its outer face flush with the plaster, as shown by Fig. 1- of the d 'awings. The installation is completed by removing pipe 6 and screwing the service outlet 11, provided with the closure 12, in its slace and securing the cover-plate 13 with cover 1 1 to the reccss-box 7. The recess-box T is, preferably, of a cylindrical form witha closed end in which is the aperture 15 for pipe 6 and service outlet 11 and the front of the recess-box is preferably provided with a flange 16 and wings 17, so that it can be securely set in the plaster and held from turning or rotating. On the inside of the recess-box is a groove 18 extending around the entire internal circumference thereof.
The cover-plate 13 may be of circular form, as shown, or any other desired form and is adapted to rest against the face of the recess-box as shown. In order to avoid machine work as much as possible, centering lugs 19, 20, 21 and 22 are cast on the inside face of the cover-plate to center it with respect to the recess-box, and the coverplate is provided with apertures for screws 23, 24% and 25. These apertures for screws 2-3, 2-4 and are placed close to the inside surface of the recess box so that the nuts 26, 27 and 28 for said screws will project into groove 18 and hold the cover-plate fast to the recess-box in any desired position. It will be readily understood that by loosening screws 23, 2a and 25 the cover-plate can be' rotated with respect to the recessbox to any desired position. The cover 14 may be i of any-suitable or preferred form and may be hinged to the cover-plate in any suitable or preferred manner as, for example, by the pin 29 and lugs shown by' the drawings. The cover may rest against a, ledge30 when closed and instead of being provided with a projecting handle'to open it, finger recesses 31 and 32 may be provided in-the-coverplate. Itwill 'be readily understood that the-covereplate 13 is assembled w-ith the-recess-box 7 by opening cover 14, inserting screws 23, 24c and 25 in the apertures inthe cover pl ate- 'and engaging the; nuts 26;:27 land 28 with the-screws by *reac-h-ing thrbrightheopening in the coverfplate.
