anvawtoz E1. FT \/a l l i QQ EDWARD F. VALLILEE,- OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
SCAFFOLDIN'G OR ATTACHMENT FOR LADDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914.
Application filed October 16, 1913. Serial No. 795,504.
T all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. VALLILEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'scafl'olding or Attachments for Ladders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a support for scaffolds which shall be of simple and inexpensive construction and thoroughly efiicient in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a scafi'old support which shall be quickly and conveniently adjustable to ladders or the like.
A further object is to provide a device of this character having various adjustments whereby it is equally adapted for use on the in or out side of the ladder and when the latter is disposed in various positions.
In the accompanying drawing wherein is shown an approved embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my invention as applied to use, Fig. 2 represents a front elevation of one of the brackets employed, Fig. 3 represents a top plan view of the su porting member, Fig. 4; represents a side e evation thereof, Fig. 5 represents a side elevation of the bracing bar, and, Fig. 6 represents a plan view thereof.
Referring more in detail to the drawing wherein similar reference numerals desig hate corresponding parts in each of the views, the numeral 7 indicates a pair of brackets each consisting of a body having a shank 8 extending from one side thereof and arms 9. extending from the ends of the opposite side thereof. A rod 10 is positioned through suitable openings formed in the free ends of the arms Sand is removably secured in position by a pin 11 extending through a suitable opening formed therein. Intermediate the arms 9 the body is provided with a pair of shorter arms for the purpose'hereim after described. The shank 8 is pivotally connected with a supporting bar 12 by a bolt extending through said shank and through one of a series 0 openings 13 formed in one copies of this patent may be obtained for end of said bar. The opposite end of the bar is connected with the shank 8 of the lower bracket of the pair by the bracing bar 14.
The upper end of the bracing bar 14 is provided with a series of openings similar to the openings 13 in the supporting bar 12 for the purposeof adjusting the parts at various angles as will be understood.
In use, a pair of brackets 7 are disposed about a ladder l5 and thereafter the rod 10 is positioned through the proper o ening of the series formed in the arms 9. T e brackets are so positioned that the intermediate arms of the body will engage upon one of the rungs of the ladder to assist in supporting the brackets- After the brackets 7 have been properly placed upon the ladder the bolts are positioned within the proper openings of the series in the bars 12 and 14 so that the supporting bar 12 will lie in a substantially horizontal plane for supporting the scaffold board 16 shown in dotte' lines in Fig. 1.
What I claim is:
.1. In a scaffold support, a bracket consisting of a body, laterally extending arms at the ends of said body, a removable rod connecting said arms, a shank extending from said body oppositely from said arms, and projections on said body intermediate said arms for engaging the rung of a ladder.
2. In a scaffold support, a bracket consisting of a body, laterally extending arms at the ends of said body, a removable rod connecting said arms, a shank extending from said body oppositely from said arms, and means intermediate said arms for engaging the rung of a ladder.
3. 'In a scaffold support, a bracket consisting of a body, laterally extending arms at the ends of said body each having a plurality of spaced apertures in the free ends thereof, a removable rod positioned through said apertures and connecting said arms, a shank extending from said body oppositely from said arms, and a plurality of projections on said body intermediate said arms for engaging the rung of the ladder.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name ,to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWVARD F. VALLILEE.
Witnesses I I FRANK J. BUTLER, HARRIET J. BUTLER.
