Description

O. G. WILLIAMS.
I HEATING STOVE. APPLICATION FILED JULY 24, 1912.

HEATING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4,1914:
Application filed July 24, 1912. Serial No. 711,308.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I,1OSCAR G. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVilliamstown, in the county of Wood and State ofWVest Virginia, have invented a new and useful Heating-Stove, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to heating stoves of that type utilizing gas as a fuel and in which the gas burners are located withina casing which is open in front and is provided with a deflector in the back thereof.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide improved means whereby air may be heated, said means including a novel arrangement of fines for conductingfresh air along the walls of the casing where it willbe thoroughly heated before. passing into the room.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description pr0ceeds,the invention resides in:the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit, of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings :Figure 1 is a front elevation of the heater. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a.
section on line AB Fig. 2., Fig. 4 is a section online CD Fig. 2.
Referring tothe figures by characters of reference 1 designates a casing of any suitable proportions and which is open in front, as shown at 2, there being a short wall 3 in front of the casing and extending upwardly from the bottom thereof, the upper edge of the wall merging into a transversely extending concaved deflectorwlwhich extends back to the rear wall of the casing. The deflector 4 has side walls 5 extending forward and spaced from the sides of the casing 1 so as to form air passages 6. A.
sidewall to the other of said casing, there heingopenings 12in the side walls and througlrwhich air is free to pass from the flue 10. Another opening13 is formed in the back wall 11 of the casing and communicates with the interior of the fine 10 and with the interior of a back flue 14 which isformed along the back face of the casing and extends from a point near the bottom of the casing upwardly to a point, slightly above the opening 13. Apipe 15 extends from the back 11 of the casing and above the flue 1.0 and serves as an outlet for prod- 10 and the front wall 7, and thence rear- 1 wardly over the flue to the outlet pipe 15. Air will rise within the flue 14 and pass through the opening 13 into flue 10 from which it, will escape, by way of opening 12 into the room to be heated.
ated through the open front of the casing. The air contained within the spaces 6 will prevent the sides of the casing adjacent the burner from becoming overheated.
It will be apparent that by arranging flucs as described, the air discharged into the room will be kept separate from the vitiated air and the products of combustion arising from the burner and, therefore, the heater can be used in a closed room without becoming objectionable.
What is claimed is A heater including a casing open at its front, an inwardly directed horizontal flange extending throughout the width of the open front and along the upper edge of the opening, said flange constituting a deflector, an imperforate forwardly and upwardly inclined flat air conducting flue and deflector,
in the upper portion of the casing and opening at its ends through the sides of the easing, said flue beingextended from the back wall of the casing and overhanging, at its front the deflecting flange, the front of said At, the same time a certain amount of heat wlll be rad1- flue being spaced from the front wall of the casing andthere being an outlet in the 7 ally increasing in cross sectional area toward the outlet, the said flue being extended continuously along the'front, top' and" bottom thereof and having its upper and lower faces parallel, an air conducting fiue upon vthe "back of the casing and extending from a point above the'bottomof the casing up to and discharging int-0 the flat air conducting flue, a rearwardly and upwardly. curved" deflector extending'frorn the loWer' edge of'the open front of the casing to the backwall of said casing, and aburner within the casing andfclose to and above said rearwardly and upwardly curved deflector.
