Description
ANTONIO S. ENNES, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO JOAQUIN M. COSTA, 0F MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
MILK-BOTTLE STOPPEB.
menace.
Specificatiers Patent. Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed November 18, 1914.. Serial No. 872,801.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO S. Emma, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Stoppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de-.
script-ion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in milk bottle stoppers and has for its principal object to provide a device which will effectivelyprotect the neck of a milk bottle against any accumulation of dirt or dust within the mouth thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a'cap which will be locked in place and held firmly against accidental displacement. A further object of the invention is to provide a metallic milk bottle stopper which is so constructed that the milk" contained within the bottle at notime comes in con tact therewith.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which Will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view of a milk bottle and stopper illustrating the.
same before the stopper is in place, Fig. 2
is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating the stopper placed in position within the bottle, and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating the stopper in its locked position within the bottle neck.
Referring now to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates as an entirety a milk bottle of the usual construction which is formed with the usual neck 2 having formed at its upper end the bead 3. The cooperating head 4 extends upwardly from the bead 3 and the inner edge of this cooperating bead becomes flush with the inner wall 5 of the bottle neck. This inner wall is inclined inwardly to form the shoulder 6, the use of which will appear as the description proceeds.
The bottle stopper which is designated generally by the numeral 7 comprises the disk 8 which is concavo-convex in form and at 10 and is arranged to conform to the shape of the head 4 hereinbefore referred to. In order to protect the contents of the bottle from the nipple of the stopper 7 there 18 provided the paper disk 11 which is of greater diameter than the disk 8 and is designed to overlie the face of the disk which is exposed to the contents of the bottle.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the disk 11 is first placed in position on the bottle neck as illustrated in Fig. l and the stopper 7 is then placed on top thereof and forced inwardly into the position illustrated in Fig. 2. Inthis position it will be apparent that the disk will be forced into separate position so as to protect the contents of the bottle and prevent thelsame from coming in contact with the stopper so that any contamination due to the chemical action of the contents of the bottle against the metal will be eliminated. In order tolock the bottle cap in place, the raised portion of the disk 8 is pressed downwardly so that it expands and forces the side wall 9 into the bottle neck beneath the shoulder 6 to form a slight outward extension as at 12 which will efi'ectively prevent the bottle stopper from being accidentally removed. 1
From the foregoing it will be apparent that a particularly simple and efficient bottle stopper is provided which will effectively shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is The combination with a bottle neck having a bead adjacent its upper end, a cooperating bead extending upwardly from the first named bead the inner wall of the last named bead being inclined at its point of connection with the wall of the bottle neck to form a shoulder, of a metal stopper having a. disk formed of metal, said disk provided with anoncavo-eonvex base, an upstanding peripheral annular flange formed around said base, the upper edge of said flange being curved downwardly over the upper bead of the bottle neck, the edge of said flange resting upon the first named bead of the bottle neck and the base adapted
