IBIITIDER DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
hrtentedSept. 5; 1916.
Original application filed March 11, 1915, Serial No. 13,826. Divided and thisapplication filedJune 24,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen FAnnoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Binder Devices,.of
filing and manipulating of the sheets thereof.
Further objects, and objects relating to details and economies of construction and op eration, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
a I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in tlieblaims. Y
A structure constituting a preferred em bodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which: Figure I is a plan view of my improved binder device with a temporary binder dis posed therein illustrating the manner of manipulating and use. Fig. II is a vertical longitudinal section on line corresponding to 22 of Fig. I. Fig. III is a perspective view with the binder and sheets removed.
In the drawings similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown an embodiment of my invention particularly designed for the type of binder shown in U. S. Letters Patent No. 878,340,- dated Feb. 4, 1908 to Harry F. Bushong, and which comprises a pair of chambered. covers 1, adjustably, connected by means of binding strips 2 to clamp or bind sheetsor leaves 3. The adjustment of the binding strip is effected by a screw mechanism 4 in one cover and a ratchet mechanism 5 in the other. The covers are preferably provided with pivoted clamping bars 6 through which the binding strips are disposed.
Serial No. 36,128.
As the details of the adjusting mechanism of the binder form no part of this invention, I donot describe the same in further detail herein.
I mount a pair 'of holders designated generally by the numerals 7 and 8 on a pair of supporting base members 9. The holder 7 comprises a side member 10 and an end member 11, while the holder 8 comprises a side member 12 and an end member 13. These holders are disposed. with their end members 11 and 13 in an oppositely inclined relation and with their upper edges meeting. The end members have slots 14, therein registering to receive the binding strips 2 of a binder-arranged in holders with one cover in each holder and the sheets resting thereon and .theirends abutting the end members oi the holder. The sheets have notches 15 therein adapted to receive the biiuling-strips, the notches being preferably open notches, that is notches of uniform width so that the sheets may be conveniently engaged vwith and disengaged from bindingstrips.
' The end member 11 is disposed at an acute angle to the sidemember 10 so that the sheets are supported with their upper ends in aninclined relation; thereby facilitating the fingering oi the sheets. The end 13 is disposed at right angles to the side members 12 so as to facilitate the aliuing of the ends of the sheets arranged tliereon. The side member 12 is preferably provided with uprights 16 mounted upon the base to project upwardly at the ends of the side member. The side members a re preferably supported for adjustment. The adjustment in the structure illustrated is effected by the arms 18 having longitudinal slots 19 therein engaged by the clamping bolts 20.
In use, the binder is arranged with 'one coi'er in each holder, the sheets in the first instance being arranged in the holder 7.
\Vhen entries are to be made, the sheets are removed from the holder 7 and after the enting them in holder 8 as shown in Fig. I.
To assist in alining the sheets in their offset or asserting relation, the and member 13 is provided with a rib 21 adapted to engage the notches 15. See Fig. 'I. The sheets have centrally disposed notches in which register with the binding strips when the sheets are thus otl'set. By thus arranging the sheets they are assorted so that those in which entries have been made or which it is desired to distinguish for other purposes are all identified.
My improved binder device greatly facilitates thense of temporary binders in the keeping of records particularly where it is desired to keep the records on typewriting machines. The sheets are supported so that they are all readily accessible and the Wear and tear thereon is minimized.
My present application is a division of my application for Letters Patent tiled March 11, 19L, Serial No. 13,896 and certain features thereof are claimed in that case.
