Be it known that I, ADOLIII C. BECKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakville, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Elec tric Lamps; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description the same, and

This invention relates to an improvement in portable electric lamps such as are commonly called flash lights, and particularly to lamps of this character with round cases made from metal.

The object of this invention is to form the case in two parts and connect them byan insulating band in which means are mounted for closing the circuit through the lamp; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.

In carrying out my invention I form the casing in two parts, an upper shell 2 and a lower shell 3. These shells'are duplicates of each other and can be reversed end for end. They are provided at opposite ends with threads and the adjacent ends are adapted to be coupled together by a band t of insulating material. In connection with a casing of this character the usual batteries are employed, being inserted into one end or the other, one pole of the Battery being in electrical contact with the lower shell, and the other pole of the batteryin connection with the lamp. By moving the button 8, the slide 7 can be moved so that the ends of the slide overlap the adjacent ends of the upper and lower case so as to close an electrical circuit through them. This construction insures the lamp remaining open when so desired, and readily permits of the application of various forms of heads; and as the shells are each less than half the length of the lamp, theyican be produced at lower cost than long shells, and by increasing the width of the band the lamps can be made longer or shorter, as desired.
